Never thought I’d say it - A disappointing Chanel.
Everything in the notes say that I should absolutely love this. Fruity, floral, violet, rose, powder.. yes please! I’ve a total soft spot for feminine fragrances in spring and summer and a total soft spot for Chanel’s DNA. Splendide opens as a sweet, soft fruity floral with slightly jammy summer fruits. A little promise of tang from the raspberry that dissipates all too quickly. It dries down into a soft peachy rose on a base of slightly powdery iris, a hint of wood and musk. I thought there’d be some summer fizz from the geranium, but alas, it’s just a pretty summer scent.
It doesn’t smell like a Chanel. To me, it smells more like an expensive shampoo or hair product, and that’s ok, one of my fav summer scent, Angeli Di Firenze, is a gorgeous fruity floral shampoo. Splendide is very lovely indeed and inoffensive, it aims to please, to be liked by all maybe?.. but instead it’s quite generic, forgettable and unremarkable. Very light and delicate and unfortunately it disappears after an hour an a half. It may not smell like a Chanel, but it’s price it still expensive for a scent I’d have to spray more liberally and more often than a body spray to get any sort of scent bubble. It’s not awful, it really is very nice, pretty, but it’s underwhelming and majorly disappointing for me.
