In the infamous "Year Without Summer," namely 1816, Mary Shelley wrote her "Frankenstein." In this very Un-Summer, John Polidori wrote his "Vampyr," the precursor to the Dracula story.
In 2011, in a year almost without summer, a silly nut had no desire for horror stories and scoured the vastness of the internet in search of a fragrance that would provide her with a hint of warmth, sunshine, and vibrant exoticism.
She saw "Fleurs des Caraïbes," bought it, and sprayed it- a few days later.
The silly nut now sits with her nose against the cold windowpane, looking out at the mouse-gray sky, feeling doubly cheated out of her summer. No summer at the door and no summer in the spray can.
In the spray can, there is mainly a lot of aerosol smell, not just when spraying. Then there's a melon aroma without real melons, a hint of "Haribo Tropifrutti," some not very convincing large Caribbean flowers, and a diffuse pleasant scent. About as exciting as an average Fa Exotic deodorant. With a lot of goodwill, perhaps a bit more exciting.
Nice, pleasant, and a small mini-vacation on the balcony for the nose. But no ecstatic Caribbean trip.
The silly nut sadly packs her beach bag. Simply hoping to still be able to use it. Maybe summer will relent after all- in autumn.
