Can one expect a lot here? Of course! Just the melodious name "Comptoir Sud Pacifique" and then "Rhum & Tabac" already set high expectations. It is supposed to evoke the Cuba of the 1960s. Well, I can't really judge that, firstly because the 60s were before my time and secondly, I've never been to Cuba. But it's on my bucket list.
If you try to imagine images of that time in Cuba, along with a man wearing a flat cap or a Panama hat, a Cuban-collared shirt, and stylish linen pants, you can easily picture this fragrance on him. Someone who enjoys life, is charming, and is also up for a dance. Cigars and rum are, of course, part of the lifestyle in Cuba.
The scent starts with a slight zest that reminds one a bit of Sprite. There is also an alcoholic note that can likely be attributed to the rum, although as someone who enjoys a good rum, I would only partially draw that comparison. I wouldn't identify the following tobacco as that of a Cuban cigar either. But the following is true: it pairs well with cigars and rum. Aficionados know that a perfume can disrupt the enjoyment of a cigar and/or a spirit. And that is not the case here.
And the late dry down of the fragrance is a gourmand par excellence. Really pleasant due to the vanilla. And this note lasts for a very long time.
All in all, a beautiful, extraordinary scent that also works in summer. However, in my opinion, more so in the evening hours.
Cheers
