I remain in speechless horror for a minute at the abyssal malice of this "perfume".
In film, the successful characterization of a villain is marked by the understandable portrayal of their motives, so that ideally even understanding and sympathy for them can arise in the viewer. "Love in Black," on the other hand, would even be too unbelievable as a cartoon villain from the 80s, a caricature of a megalomaniacal madman exaggerated in every dimension.
I would have never believed that a "perfume" could be so piercingly shrill and simultaneously musty and suffocating. If it truly contains iris and violet, then these come from a bizarre mirror universe where flowers eat people. Here, they combine the metallic, rotten breath of a festering wound with the aura of a foaming bloodhound into the horrifying miasma of the apocalypse.
If scents contain messages, then "Love in Black" screams frantically: "Run for your life!"
For me, this is THE Gothic scent, even more than any patchouli tincture. Victorian, dark, yet bright at times. You either love it or hate it. Since I've loved violets since childhood: thumbs up.
I just had a hearty laugh - what a wonderful comment! At first, the scent is quite nice, but it quickly reveals itself... but what can I say about that :-)))
Otherwise, I always feel so alone with my short stories.
Really beautifully written!
Great comment, a true poet, I love that. grrrr!
Now I just HAVE to test it.
