Return Of The King!

Well I heard the rumor that Creed had got their act together on Creed Aventus and the latest batches were good.

So curiously I purchased a bottle from the London boutique, batch number LOT FOOO544. Indeed the cap was the first change I saw, gone was the plastic one. Replaced with a heavy metal cap along with the Creed logo no longer been inked in black. It's now just clear.

So I applied three sprays, one to the chest and the others to my arms on the inner elbow area. Straight away I get the beautiful fruity pineapple with blackcurrant followed by smoke. Yes I could smell the birch up front, not too strong but it did add a smokiness to the wonderful pineapple fruitiness.

This was followed by a lovely persistent musk which seemed to be there as anchor for the rest of the notes. It seemed to take the fruity notes into the mid and basenotes. As the hours went by I could smell wafts of cedar, vanilla which became more prominent in the far drydown and fruity notes. All together with this muskiness.

To give a contrast to this current batch I used to have a vanilla ambergris/ musky heavy batch from I believe 2017. With that one you would get the fresh pineapple fruitiness for forty or so minutes and then some vanilla. Then the ambergris muskiness just took over. That's all you would get, the Creed signature ambergris heavy muskiness.

Well in this current batch that has been dialled way back. Now things are blended more in a balanced way. So when you are smelling it even after hours, you can still smell the fruitiness and other nuances with the muskiness. It no does not overwhelm the fragrance like it did in my old batch from years ago. Which is great!

Now performance wise I get over six hours with a lovely woody vanilla left as a skin scent. The first two hours or so it goes on strong, I could go out of a room and go back in and the room would smell of a fruity muskiness. Then it stays within arms length.

Now nose -blindness was a thing for me, sometimes I would stop smelling the scent. Only for it to come back with a vengeance later. I think Creed may be using a new musk as a fixative because the performance has been quite good. That musk note from the opening to the drydown has been tenacious and persistent.

All in all a beautiful batch of Aventus with a fruity smoky musky profile that carries the scent for a long while. Delivering the pineapple fruitiness we all love from the opening to the drydown where a lovely vanilla accord blooms.
