Of Heroes & Myths
He had crossed oceans of time
To find this place
Not to bind his stony fate
To these dreary and bleak days
A glimmer of hope remains
If only vague…
Promising
From Rosslyn Castle it shines
Amber light, the path it indicates
Branding the way lined
Full of noble herbs he only dreams
To forge the steel of justice
So that a smoking blade frees
Time
From darkness and sadness
Soon everything will be consecrated to the light
A dark rose now adorns his work
In the hope that the magic never again
Fades

Such associations arise in me when I let Bitter Rose & Broken Spear take effect. For this Durga is indeed a truly enchanting work. Perfectly suited for autumn, this fragrance tells of barren, rugged landscapes, ancient castles, and heroes from long-gone times…
Moreover, it was a great concern for musician David Seth and his partner Kavi, also known as Durga, to capture exactly this kind of emotion and defining landscapes olfactorily in the bottle with the Hylnds series. The mystical region of Northern Europe served as the template, influenced by the ancient tribes of the Vikings and Celts. A thoroughly successful project, as with closed eyes and a little passion, Broken Spear evokes precisely such images and impressions.
The fragrance itself starts with an immensely sympathetic aura of herbaceous, spicy-scented herbs. This bouquet is enriched by a slight floral note and flanked by a mild sharpness for more edge. Everything is well-balanced and harmonized.
According to the pyramid, glowing embers are included. However that may smell, the embers confidently and accentuated probably contribute to the smoky facets that give the fragrance a certain character stamp.
Crucially, at least according to my perception, is the gradually emerging and never overwhelming rose that comes to the fore. This is fundamentally important to me, as rose in fragrances usually drives me away in a hurry. But not here! This rose is maximally kept in check by the sparkling fire of the embers and the ethereal waves of the herbs. Additionally, a certain herb-bitter component can be perceived finely woven in.
The further development culminates in the addition of a resinous-woody base. This generally makes the fragrance appear very rounded and soft, with the well-anchored and well-measured rose at the center. I would lean towards a rather dark rose here, but not syrupy or even opulent.
In summary, Bitter Rose & Broken Spear is a very successful composition, symbolically representing the considerations mentioned above.
The fragrance has a moderate projection and a longevity that is well perceivable for several hours.

Victorious to eternity
He now prepared himself
To return home to his loved ones
To show how olfactorily winning
The darkness has now been dispelled

But first, thank you for the beautiful words and scent images.
Respect...
And if you like roses on the battlefield, I recommend Nevermore. You might like that one too!
Anyway, a very beautiful description of the landscape, and with a rose kept in check, it might actually work for me too!
