…and not a bit quiet

My mother has always been a perfume lover. And she has always preferred it to be striking and correspondingly loud. While she loved classic chypre fragrances as a young woman, she jumped on the gourmand train in the nineties with the launch of Mugler's Angel. She was particularly taken with these scents due to their opulence, sweetness, and ability to fill a room. Even though she is not a particularly loud person, she loves to communicate through her appearance. Her clothing style, including her glasses, has always been bold, loud, and colorful.

My mother is now seventy years old, and her current favorite fragrance is Scandal by Jean Paul Gaultier. She also enjoys scents like Teint de Neige by Villoresi or Micallef's Mon Parfum. They must be sweet and room-filling, her perfumes. When I visit her, the first thing that greets me in her apartment is her very special scent cloud. And I perceive exactly this with Dear Diary.

This is an opulent gourmand that doesn't waste any time. It kicks off with an intense honey note and sweet flowers. The bees can come! Despite the almost tooth-aching sweetness, Dear Diary is and remains thoroughly a perfume and never becomes food-like. A scent that wants to provoke. If it had a color, it would be bright red. With the sweet chocolate and its fine patchouli note, it is always perfectly balanced. I clearly recognize parallels to Scandal here, especially regarding the honey note. Although this fragrance is, of course, composed a bit more elegantly and - oh wonder - lasts even longer than the Gaultier. I can also detect hints of Angel and Mon Parfum in Dear Diary. Yes, this is how Mom smells. Just like that and not otherwise. One thing is clear. She will get this sample. And I bet she will buy this fragrance too.

Now, it is said that the reference fragrances I mentioned, especially Scandal, according to marketing and the various chatter one hears here and there, are supposed to be reserved for very young women, even girls. And such a thing is supposed to be worn by a seventy-year-old? Yes, she does. With pride. And this fragrance direction is absolutely wonderful on her.

Because to this day, she is not a bit quiet when it comes to scent and style. Stay just as you are, Mom!

A big thank you to Gandix for the sample, which I will pass on soon :)

That's beautifully written again! I do like sweet scents quite a bit, but when they smell like food, I get tired of them quickly.

Great mom you have there... maybe this would be a gift for her? I found the scent very delicate and much less opulent than Teint de Neige, which is my daughter's signature scent :)

A very nice personal comment! My mother is over 90 and still enjoys wearing perfumes, but not those strong ones ;)

What a sweet blast! I think there might be too much sugar in it for me. But it's wonderful when people happily express their own style, just like your mom does. It makes the world more colorful and beautiful.

Hey, honey in fragrances really isn't for me, but your mom seems to love it! Thanks for the mom profile and a little trophy for your mom! :-) I'm curious to see if you're right and she goes for the scent right away. :-)

I also find the age labels unnecessary. Everyone should wear what they like. Nice to meet your mom!

Once again, a wonderful connection between scent and personal (or rather maternal) history, which I enjoyed reading. My mom likes Miss Dior (though she thinks it's "totally watered down" now), Aramis, and really loves Le Male. (No, she didn't get that from me...) Big Mama trophy for you!

Unfortunately, the brand has completely missed the mark for me, including this one. There was a DNA in it that I just couldn't and didn't want to deal with. Of course, it wasn't about the quality itself.

Maybe someone should buy up the other fragrances from the brand, then maybe they’d restock again @MaKr ;)

Great woman, your mother. Reminds me a bit of mine, who loved everything that smelled good. I got that from her. Just didn't inherit her love for Chypre. But she was a different type than I am. Scandal and Angel aren't really my thing. I fear Two Senses would be too gourmand and sweet for me.

That's nice that your mom is so into fragrances, even for "younger scents." I call that a confident lady.
I don't know if I would like this one; honey is always a bit tricky for me.
Very beautifully written comment with a lot of heart.

Well written and accompanied by beautiful pictures. I also picked up my obsession with scents from my mother's milk.

Fragrance preferences don't care about age. Your own nose is always in charge, as they say :-) And from how you describe your mother, a rich scent would probably suit her perfectly. It might be a bit too sweet for me, but your lovely comment is once again fantastic! My mother, after many years with Chypres, is now into subtle rose scents.

I wouldn't have associated it with Scandal. I don't find it that loud either. But I understand if you perceive it that way.
For me, it's a delicious, enticing cocoa powder ;) Wishing your mom lots of joy with it ♡

My mother used to wear rather bold but quite stylish fragrances back in the day. I think she would probably enjoy gourmand scents today as well. The fragrance you described might appeal to me too :-)

Nice comment! My mom is completely different. She prefers it quiet and subtle. Plus, she has no fondness for perfume.
I don't like it loud either. I prefer it close to the skin and soft. Apparently, that's inherited too :D
Mom trophy!

Your mom is quite similar to mine. Even though mine was usually too vain to wear glasses. She mostly wore (and still wears) her prescription sunglasses in her hair. While shopping, they would fall into a shelf - and we had to search for the glasses :))) A lovely and sweet comment from you :)

Haha, then I wish your mom a lot of fun with it. I don’t find it that sweet, though; I really don’t like the mentioned candidates ;) more cocoa-dusted for me. But it’s great that it evokes such associations for you :)
