Disappointing in comparison with Dior Eau Sauvage Eau de Toilette

Very briefly - I am new; but only here. In real life, I arrived in late summer. I'm not so fond of flowery descriptions, short stories and basic substances listed according to the element system - I describe what goes through my head when I smell a certain perfume
I bought the Dior Eau Sauvage perfume because I was really enthusiastic about the Dior Eau Sauvage Eau de Toilette. I actually use it every day - at least during the warm seasons. In the cold seasons, I switch to Marlboro from Tumper.

In any case, the Dior Eau Sauvage Eau Parfum should replace the EdT of the same manufacturer on special occasions. But I was and am so disappointed.....The perfume has nothing but nothing in common with the EdT. Neither do I smell lemon or orange or any similarity. It just smells like cheap cologne. I tried it several times - after weeks, after months, in the evening, in the morning...it's as if I bought a completely different perfume from a completely different manufacturer, a completely different scent.

I'm just irritated that so many people find this Dior Eau Sauvage perfume so good and I'm really not sure if I'm making a mistake in thinking or if I just expected something else.

EdP 2012: Bright lettering on completely black banderole. Black cardboard
EdP 2017: Black lettering on silver shield in the middle of the black banderole. White cardboard.
The EdP 2012 has as little, if anything, to do with the EdT as the EdP 2017. I have loved the EdT for over 35 years and adore the 2017 EdP. Even if it is not a stronger brother, for me it is a family, an idea.

Right at the beginning first of all thanks to all answerers and thanks that here a "newcomer" is not immediately torn in the air, if the view goes in another direction, than the general trend.
Furthermore the posted answers help me to classify and better understand my experience with this EdP
But if someone else can answer my question, I would be very grateful. How can I tell the difference between the original EdP of 2012 and the new EdP 2017?
Thanks

That's just like me. But I suspect that people who have been wearing Eau Sauvage for a long time (about 40 years in my case) have internalised its DNA, so to speak. The perfume is now a late descendant, and you can hardly tell if it's related. Presumably on purpose, because new, younger consumers are to be addressed, who then rediscover the old fragrance and its qualities. I have the impression that many people only get to know the original scent through the perfume.

Nice comment! The original "Eau Sauvage" was a milestone in fragrance culture ... the EdP, on the other hand, is, as you have already written, simply a completely different fragrance that has nothing to do with the original version.

First of all, congratulations on your choice of everyday fragrances: Eau Sauvage and Marlborough by Trumper... Both fragrances have been with me for most of my life. You must see this fragrance as a fragrance in its own right, which has nothing to do with the normal Eau Sauvage. Then the elemi-resin-vetiver blend is quite successful. In the end, it's a matter of taste anyway. You've already shown style with ES and Trumper ;)

This fragrance is quite different from the original. The first version of it was a masterpiece, but unfortunately not anymore due to the reformulation.
