Disappointing Compared to Dior Eau Sauvage Eau de Toilette

Just briefly - I’m new; but only here. In real life, I have already arrived in late summer. I’m not really into flowery descriptions, short stories, and ingredient lists based on the elements system - I describe what comes to mind when I smell a particular perfume.

I bought the Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum because I was really excited about the Dior Eau Sauvage Eau de Toilette. I actually use it daily - at least during the warm seasons. In the cold ones, I switch to Marlboro by Tumper.

Anyway, the Dior Eau Sauvage Eau Parfum was supposed to replace the EdT of the same brand for special occasions. But I was and am so disappointed.....The perfume has nothing, absolutely nothing in common with the EdT. I don’t smell lemon or orange or any resemblance. It just smells like cheap cologne. I’ve tried it multiple times - after weeks, after months, in the evening, in the morning....it’s as if I bought a completely different perfume from a completely different manufacturer, in a completely different fragrance direction.

What irritates me is that so many people find this Dior Eau Sauvage Parfum so good, and I really am not sure if I’ve fallen into a thinking error here or if I just expected something different.

EdP 2012: Light text on a completely black band. Black box.

EdP 2017: Black text on a silver label in the middle of the black band. White box.

The EdP 2012 has just as little, if not even less, to do with the EdT as the EdP 2017 does. I've loved the EdT for over 35 years and adore the 2017 EdP. Even though it's not a stronger brother, to me, it's a family, an idea.

First of all, thank you to everyone who replied, and thanks for not tearing apart a "newbie" when their opinion goes against the general trend.
Also, the posted responses help me to contextualize and better understand my experience with this EdP.
If anyone can answer one more question for me, I would be very grateful. How can you tell the difference between the original EdP from 2012 and the new EdP from 2017?
Thanks!

I felt the same way. But I suspect that anyone who has been wearing Eau Sauvage for a long time (for me, about 40 years) has internalized its DNA, so to speak. The perfume is now a later descendant, with hardly any resemblance left. Probably on purpose, as they want to appeal to new, younger consumers who will then, in a roundabout way, rediscover the old scent and its qualities. I actually have the impression that many people are now getting to know the original scent only through the perfume.

Great comment! The original "Eau Sauvage" was a milestone in fragrance culture... the EdP, on the other hand, is, as you mentioned, just a completely different scent that has nothing to do with the original version.

First of all, congratulations on your everyday scent choice: Eau Sauvage and Marlborough by Trumper... Both fragrances have been part of my life for a long time. You really have to see this perfume as a standalone scent, which doesn’t have much to do with the regular Eau Sauvage. The elemiharz-vetiver blend is quite successful. Ultimately, it’s a matter of taste anyway. You’ve already proven your style with ES and Trumper. ;)

This scent is just completely different from the original. The first version was a masterpiece, but unfortunately, it's not the same after the reformulation.
