A Love That Never Ends
I am writing my review about the much-criticized new version, which, unfortunately, has lost some of its strength, but still retains its magic and shine.
I had known HP for a while; I even wore it to work once, of course only in a mini dose. The scent was always received very positively. Then I lost track of the fragrance and got to know other, supposedly better candidates!
But I have never forgotten Hypnotic Poison! Last year, my better half and I were finally able to visit Lake Constance again after an endlessly long winter (in lockdown), it was so beautiful! Of course, we also got thirsty over time, and the service at the lakeside promenade was very nice and friendly. And we were always surrounded by such a beautiful scent. So fine-spicy-oriental, smelling of vanilla. Not a cloud of fragrance, but just a hint when the lady approached us.
I immediately knew it was Hypnotic Poison; after all, I recognized it from before. And I knew I had to have the scent again. It was like a sign, if you know what I mean.
When you look at the fragrance notes, unfortunately, Hypnotic Poison has been stripped of its power, which has happened to many "strong" fragrances lately. On Dior's website, only the bittersweet almond is listed as the top note, with jasmine in the heart note and lightly spicy vanilla in the base. At least it is still available for purchase; one can almost be glad about that.
I personally smell only almonds first and foremost, nothing else. The floral notes unfortunately get a bit lost, and the jasmine note is not very present for me. I can’t smell coconut at all anymore, which I don’t find too bad. All the spiciness is only subtly and delicately perceptible. On my skin, after a little while, only the vanilla remains, but not a boring vanilla; rather, it is underlaid with a delicate, slightly smoky woody spiciness. Almost like a subtle cream, just more multifaceted, and after some time, it becomes just a skin scent, but a very beautiful one. I enhance this effect with my HP roll-on, which I consider a good invention.
In my surroundings, the red apple is no longer worn at all; other fragrances are currently more popular... but I wouldn’t mind if it were.
Unmistakable and unforgettable, the beauty of the past reappears and draws me back into its spell! It’s not so bad if you don’t just barge in with the door... or is it?!
By the way, a sentence is quoted on Dior's website that I wanted to mention at the end because I find it very fitting:
Hypnotic Poison is not worn; it wears you. Period.

Hypnotic Poison is a huge love of mine. And I don't know anyone else who wears it. It's a shame, really, as it's such a magical scent :-)
Hypnotic Poison is a scent I've always liked. Recently, I had the chance to test the current version. They've definitely clipped its wings a bit. But it's still superior to many modern fragrances.
