my walk with Christian
As a Breton, Christian Dior loved his homeland very much and visited it time and again. The hearty Breton cuisine was also a staple in his private life.
He also valued the friends of his childhood, who were there to help him from the very beginning at "Maison Christian Dior." He was loyal, the "Thian"!
Equally devoted was his heart to Provence; in 1950 he bought the "Château de la Colle Noir" there.
In the village of Callian, just outside the perfume city of Grasse, he and his loved ones are buried; the lifelong love of his sister Catherine (to whom he dedicated his fragrance "Miss Dior") can also be found there.
In Grasse, Catherine and Hervé, who never divorced his wife, operated a large flower farm, whose fragrant products were shipped all over the world.
At the center of it all was the then almost forgotten "Grasse Rose," which is fortunately being cultivated there again now.
Many of their cultivation areas had to make way for real estate; only slowly is this blooming treasure reclaiming space. Unfortunately, this is also accompanied by so-called "rose wars" - Money makes the World go round!
He spent his vacations quite relaxed: he tinkered a bit in the park-like garden.
The house Christian Dior Parfums set a fragrant monument to the May roses found there with "La Colle Noire" - more on that on-site.
These vacations served for relaxation: Christian finally read his beloved books, met with loyal friends; there was eating, drinking, and a lot of talking.
He also loved long walks, and on one of these walks, he takes me along with "Balade Sauvage" from "La Collection Privée."
Balsamic scents immediately surround me; a summery fragrance impression, where I can even hear the unmistakable noise of the cicadas.
As Goethe said: "Happy are the cicadas, for they have silent wives!"
No, he wasn't always polite, the gentleman Geheimrat!
I think the guys make such noise just to drown out their wives!
Our path leads in the dappled shade under old pines, we follow it quietly and relaxedly chatting. A gentle sea breeze provides coolness and brings the unmistakable scent of the Mediterranean with it: it's beautiful, simply beautiful!
Large fig trees, whose finger-like leaves cast lively shadows and also drop small fruits onto the path, mix their special lively "green" scents into the warm air.
Citrus fruits, of course, must not be missing on this "dreamy walk with Christian Dior."
They hang thick and ripe on the trees; thus, they release their fresh-fruity aroma into the warm soft air of a late summer afternoon.
This atmosphere invites you to linger; it is the "hour of Pan."
Can you hear him? "Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune": Claude Debussy knew this mood!
Perhaps this horned nature spirit is keeping us company, hiding just behind a bush, trying to conduct the orchestra of cicadas.
I like this fragrance series, which reminds me of the private Christian Dior: I gladly follow his traces from his birthplace "Granville" to Provence and will certainly stroll around his Château there as well.
"Balade Sauvage" comes with just a few fragrance notes and yet unfolds the charm of a very harmoniously rounded, lovable work of art.
That my walk, in my feeling, consists of much more than the listed scents is surely due to my fragrance imagination and my imaginary companion.
Merci, Monsieur Dior!
