Wonderful Transformation from Insect Spray to Purchase Candidate

My statement four years ago: Absolutely chemical, biting pineapple scent with presumed fragrance enhancer. A brutal chemical cocktail reminiscent of insect spray.

Back then, I was new to the world of perfume and was searching among the recommended scents for something suitable for me. I had written off Sauvage until recently, especially since I tested the sample that had been stored in my cellar last year again. The impression was still as described above.

A few days ago, I visited some friends, and someone was wearing a great perfume that, as it turned out, was actually Sauvage.
In the meantime, there seem to be a total of four variants of it, which is why I feel prompted to conduct a "big" fragrance test among all the variants again.

The recently acquired EDT now smells just as good to me as it did last weekend. Although there isn’t much to describe, as significant fragrance development is not to be expected. The opening is sweet-fresh and somewhat reminiscent of anise or licorice, with light pineapple and synthetic aquatic notes floating in the background. Everything feels finely tuned and well-woven, with a certain creaminess further enhancing the scent profile.
The drydown is very pleasant and somewhat greenish. I couldn't smell any insect spray or anything chemical this time.
Either the formulation has changed, or my nose has become somewhat desensitized, which could presumably be due to my first COVID-19 infection in March 2023.

I prefer the EDT significantly over the EDP as it is softer or finer. The EDP is overall not only stronger (more spice, synthetic), but unfortunately, it also briefly reminded me of toilet spray. The drydown here smells rather peppery and spicy, and the longevity and sillage are roughly the same for both.

I will change my rating for the EDT from 5.5 to 8.5, so a purchase is being considered. However, I will first test the other two candidates.

When I read your statement, it felt like you were speaking directly to my soul. I felt the same way back then, thinking the scent was too sharp, but I perceive it very differently now.

It smells so good that there's always a refill bottle ready in the cabinet!

I felt the same way. At first, I found it too generic and sharp... but now it's even become a staple for me. Maybe it has mellowed a bit? I think it also helps that the hype around Sauvage is dying down.
