A Baltic Unique
One of my neighbors in the building is from near Riga. And his mother-in-law recently passed away at the age of 108!!! years. She left Mr. W. several home fragrances. And he knows that I am a perfume enthusiast. Since he and his wife can't make use of the mother-in-law's scents, I got some of them quite cheaply. Among them is an old bottle of "Krasnoir Moskva," a really great fragrance!!, and three others that I couldn't attribute to any fragrance company because everything is written in Cyrillic... (does anyone perhaps still know Russian or Baltic perfume manufacturers??) And this one here, 13 ml of PARFUM in a pink little box. The small decorative bottle rests in its silky interior. It must be quite old. And this "Anonss" is a true unique, it resembles or is similar to none of the perfumes I have smelled so far.
It starts off fresh-citrusy-floral-cool, like a Baltic Sea breeze.
Soon a very finely tuned floral note emerges, which has a wonderfully old-fashioned charm. A bouquet of roses, jasmine, carnations, lily of the valley (very "green") and a very faint hint of hyacinth or lilac. The wonderful "brew" is also delicately powdery in the "dry down," I suspect iris...
This composition reminds me of old photos of ladies in light, long dresses and straw hats, strolling with a parasol along a seaside promenade... (perhaps at the Baltic Sea?)
Yes, and then a wonderfully woody "base note" emerges, which likely contains real sandalwood, along with fresh-silver-green cedar and a hint of amberwood (or amber resin)...
With this, the warming sun comes to light, which many might look forward to on cool days in the far northeast. Together with the flowers, it creates a delightful fragrance experience for me. Just a "Baltic unique"...
