Our house in the countryside...,

I spend July and August there.
We still call it summer freshness ;)
It dates back to the 14th century.

The attic, built out on the hillside, with a small terrace right above
my mother's wine cellar.
Beautifully overgrown with wild roses and raspberry bushes that fill the
air with a bittersweet scent on summer evenings.

A light smell of smoke and voices drift up to me.
Mother is welcoming guests!
Her musicians, as she likes to say.

Father was a Germanist, Mother attended drama school in her youth.
I can see her in front of me. The roles still suit her well.
For the performance at home, no special robe is needed. She doesn’t
require that. Anyone who is invited should feel lucky.
I can hear the piano and the heated discussions until late at night.

When calm sets in, I know it well, the incense comes, wonderful and beautiful.
Whole clouds up to the roof beams.
One must bless the guests and strengthen oneself, she says!
She is right.
I like to take a piece of this attitude for myself; one needs strength every day
for the performance in life!

An incredible scent, with such power, it becomes stronger as it goes on.
Man, woman, it doesn’t matter, it takes you with it anyway!
