...the Chypre changes or it stays as it is. The hen broods her chicks and they chirp chyp, chyp, chyp. But we are not on a chicken farm and Zadig does not smell like dung, even though it is declared an animalistic Chypre. There are other creations that smell like dung.
Zadig is a fragrance for true lovers of classic Chypres. Yup, a thunderous Chypre of the old school. A “shut your trap or you’ll get a hot earful” Chypre, a “stay away from me or I’ll show you how quickly you can fly to the evening star” Chypre. Wearable for women, men, and everything in between. With hair on their teeth and elsewhere.
Chypres have been in vogue at various times over the past decades, and every renowned house has tried to throw a few Chypres onto the market. The family of Chypres is large. There are floral, animalistic, green, fruity, etc. I have already elaborated on this extensively here on parfumo. Today, they are not so up to date anymore. Some pseudoparfumers sometimes try to mash something together and then call it Chypre. That only elicits a lame shrug from me. We live in times where everyone from the toilet attendant to the mosquito breeder can start a new fragrance label. There are no limits to the madness.
But back to Zadig. The above pyramid is more than inadequate. Sapho has already discovered more. Thanks for that. Just as Zadig reveals itself to me. Still, it is difficult to unravel a well-made, dense Chypre. Anyone who claims to distinctly smell even one of the ingredients must have a nose like a nose monkey from Borneo. Here are my impressions: Cool aldehydic opening, sprinkled with citrus fruits. Herbal and bitter. Swings over to a sea of unsweetened flowers. None stands out or pushes forward.
The base: Cool, moist, green, earthy, woody, and all peed on by the civet cat.
It takes a long time for the curtain to fall on this spectacle. Ah yes, after so many years on parfumo, one can still make discoveries.
I’ll drift off to Chypre heaven......
"From toilet attendant to mosquito breeder" 😂
Yes, that's how a good Chypre should be. A complete scent that brings all the details together as ONE. Thank you for the great description. ML!
How wonderful that there are still discoveries to be made! I just laughed at how you described that there are no limits to madness... Thank you, your description really makes me eager to try it!
