August Erik Kormann 2008

Today I discover the "Frohlocken" by Mr. Wuchsa on Facebook, who recommends a "crisp" scent that fits the overall climatic impression of the Christmas season.
I am immediately swept away and apply the suggested "August," making myself comfortable at the "Hüttenzauber-Deko" on my dining table and indulging in the winding down of the festive days.
Citrus fruits and mandarins instantly remind me of imported fruity delights on the Christmas plate, and thus I mentally place the peels on the stove and enjoy the fine scent.
Outside, it continues to rain, and a desperate glance out of the window adorned with crystal stars and baubles makes me search for an idyll that, unfortunately, eluded us this year. Not a single ice flower has appeared on the pane; no, this time we had a much too warm Christmas season. A glance at the large mirror above the sideboard and a beautifully decorated branch with acrylic icicles mocks me!
And just as the citrus veil blends with the woody-amber base of August, late autumn also returns to my field of vision. I think of Mallorca, the warm yet stormy windy days on the island, followed by cold and rather uncomfortable nights in the last days of October. After a long walk, we find ourselves warmly wrapped on the terrace, gas heaters with large flames and a cozy blanket provide comfort. The air is damp, and we feel how the clammy cold gnaws at our bones. Care for a glass of sangria, with plenty of orange slices in it? Oh, I’d rather peel a few mandarins and lean back, then I’ll order a black tea with lemon. A damp-woody scent comes from the wooded hills around us...
At home, it must already be crisp and cold, and Christmas is just around the corner!

Back in the here and now - at the table with the "Hüttenzauber-Deko":
...a slightly derailed expression and then I have to laugh heartily:

(rejoicing)

"For cinnamon, anise, and Christmas stars come from far away. August may be far too, but I like Kormann's scent now."

Conclusion:
I have owned this scent for a while, and in summer it didn't quite appeal to me. Too strong for a refreshment and not really wearable for me in soft climates.
It doesn’t offer a great scent progression; it presents itself at the start as crisp, finely citrusy, and really delicious with mandarins, and it finishes softly and woody, with the mandarin remaining in focus until the end. I wouldn’t describe it as a summer scent, but rather as a portrayal of a Mediterranean seasonal transition... (after all, we find most citrus fruits - especially mandarins more on the Christmas plate than in the summer fruit bowl)
For now, in the uncomfortable dampness, right in the middle of the turning point of the seasons, it comforts me and gives me pleasant moments! Currently, the perfect scent for this time of year, which isn’t really a season...

If it doesn’t want to be cozy, then August conjures up a winter in Mallorca for me - I just miss the sound of the sea a little!
