Thanks to a sample from TrialError, I had the pleasure of experiencing August :-) Thank you!
The confusion was great at first..Soap who? Is that the company? The publisher? The perfumer? A blog??? The website was a bit clearer..but at ALzD it was listed under Erik Korkann again and not under 1000 & 1 Seife..cool marketing..it gives them an underground-independence-garage (like with wines)-look..what a collector's item..and aren't we all a little bit (..or more!?) here?!
Well then..about the scent itself..I had no high expectations, it looked more like a hobby next to the soaps..not like great perfumer's art.
Well..Dave..first test then think..or (pre-)judge..the perfume (it is literally!) is a dream in citrus and musk. A creamy mandarin freshness combined with lily of the valley and musk. I think the outdoor pool season has just been extended by another 2 months;-)!
Neither the citrus, nor the August lily, nor the musk note have I smelled before in this way or anything similar. Quite unique. Quite wonderful.
The citrus note is not an Edition Blanche, no Hanae Mori, none from the Jardin-Hermes range...different..greener..but sweeter..not as sweet as Orange Sanguine. For me, the decisive factor is..pure citrus scents become monotonous for me after a certain time, too boring, too one-dimensional to wear them often..the business use is therefore usually not so easy..except in high summer when it’s all about smelling (long) fresh. Here, it’s the interplay between fresh-sweet, light-deep, bright-dark that makes the scent unique and sets it apart from many light summer waters. It is much more than just a pure summer scent for me..you might suspect it when first sprayed..even in the first few minutes..but then the scent develops so wonderfully and lasts long (I perceive it over 7 hours!)..it distinguishes itself from the rather one-dimensional summer scents that simply decrease in concentration and strength..but still smell the same(!) of lemon, bergamot, or orange..just weaker.
August has a wonderful volume and that with 5 essences...even if there should only be as many essences as the month number indicates..I unfortunately can't find 3 more. The 5 (I only smell 3) are completely sufficient for the scent to win me over and receive the highest score from me.
Very nice and soothing for me is also the clearly softened version of the lily of the valley..overdosed in Acqua Universalis Forte..here exactly the ideal dose for a fresh-and-comfort scent..but with fresh laundry and fabric softener has nothing to do with it. The whole thing feels incredibly harmonious and balanced..is this the "hidden" effect of Iso-E-Super that is said to be attributed to "her"?
August is for me an addictive all-rounder for January-December, 08-23 hours, Mon-Sun..basically 24x7, from balloon silk to jeans to suit..therefore it fits perfectly into my collection and is ideally suited for my areas of use.
August is strongly limited in quantity and edition...that doesn't make it any less attractive..;-) Bunker..Bunker...;-)
