M.04 moved in with me as a "let's give it a try" ... I wanted to know if it really is a pure sandalwood scent and if it lives up to the reputation it has as a pure molecule fragrance...
I like sandalwood in the base of other perfumes I own, especially in This is Her by Zadic & V...
So I ordered the thing and tried it as soon as it arrived...
First, I must say that I had no high expectations for M4, given my experiences with my other two Molecules (M1, M2 - I use them for layering; worn alone, they are just average for me), so much transparency must be maintained...
So I sprayed M4, first impression, yes, I like it, I immediately smelled the sandalwood cloud around me, and in a way that I didn't notice with M1 and M2, even though I'm not nose-blind, as often described...
What followed, however, was a bang effect for me...
The sillage... OMG...
There it was, the effect that I love and appreciate in perfumes... I can smell myself... and not just for a certain amount of time (which is normal) but throughout the entire wear...
That's how it should be... I generally wear perfumes for myself; it’s nice if the environment also gets a whiff (not in a penetrating way), including feedback, but that's not the reason I wear perfume...
I eagerly awaited the scent to fade... I was in a loop, M4 just wouldn't quit... time and again, the creamy woody sandalwood note wafted around me... my eyebrow raised in appreciative acknowledgment...
The day came to an end, bedtime...
Of course, before that, I did what one does, shower and so on... I could still smell myself afterward... slowly, the certainty crept in... this one has to be scrubbed off...
As usual, I applied one of my bedtime scents... now I wanted to know, the challenge was on...
What can I say, M4 "obliterated" my bedtime scent as well...
I went to bed with my sandalwood cloud (2 sprays in the morning) slightly weakened, of course...
The truth hit me in the morning...
Eyes open, there it was again, the sandalwood cloud...
Well... I was left with, admittedly, a mix of respectful awe for M4, nothing else but to layer a sandalwood-heavy top scent over it after my morning shower, which M4 survived again, in this case, Gris Charnel by BDK...
Conclusion to my M4 experience...
It is my most potent molecule fragrance, I love sandalwood, I will spend years with my 30 ml bottle (and that's a good thing), I have to think very carefully about if, when, and how long I want to smell like sandalwood and when it's better to keep my hands off the bottle to wear my other fragrances...
I never would have thought that there are ghosts in bottles that, once you call them, you can't get rid of...
