Come, let’s walk through the flower meadow, past the jasmine bushes, and take the small trail in the underbrush into the forest. It’s a bit hidden. So follow me. The air is filled with the wonderful scents of nature after the rain. Herbs and spices release their finely spicy aromas in the morning dew. Some say the entrance is behind the willow with the goats, a path that I don’t know myself. We sit on the mossy tree stumps and listen to the forest waking up. If you are very quiet, you can not only hear the birds singing and the insects buzzing, but perhaps even the enchanted forest fairy. She will grant you perhaps the most beautiful wish. She will lead you to the secrets of nature.
Aliage by Estée Lauder in the 2015 version reminds me of a lush meadow in the morning dew that borders the forest. A beautiful classic that immediately transports me into nature. The mugwort and nutmeg notes give this overall very friendly green fragrance a fine, but never too harsh edge. The moss remains very subtle and, unlike some moss-heavy fragrances, never lays on my tongue here. That’s how I like oak moss. Unfortunately, I cannot make a comparison with the original version, as I have never experienced it. But I perceive the base tone of this scent, although it is much less floral, similarly to that of Nicolaï’s Sacrebleu Intense or Caron’s Montaigne (up to the 2017 version). I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a hint of orange blossom in Aliage as well. A very beautiful fragrance.
What actually surprised me a bit: Many seem to have smelled goat here. No idea where this impression comes from. I certainly don’t think of goats with this version of Aliage. But scent associations are just as they are. I know that all too well myself. When the brain says goat, then it smells like goat. Fortunately for me, it’s not goats, but only fine, floral-spicy green.
A heartfelt thank you to MadameLegras for the opportunity to test.
I don't think of goat either! And after thoroughly testing Villa Neroli (actually Villa Orange Blossom), I also think there's orange blossom in there. The sweetness really increases towards the base. I think it's lovely too :)
For a long time, this was my grandma's signature scent, who otherwise wore No. 19 and Bandit or Cabochard. Back then, she was looking for a completely unsweet fragrance. The original is more bitter and has more strength. But the new version holds its own. For me, it remains a green reference scent that I love for its herbaceousness. By the way, Aramis Devin is very similar and comes closer to the old Alliage. (And goat 🐐??? No idea 🤷♂️. I can't relate to that at all.)
Beautifully described - the scent is very similar to the predecessor I once had. The green initially captivated me, but eventually became overwhelming, so I had to let it go. After a long time, I realized: the galbanum becomes difficult for me after a while. “We sit on the tree stumps and listen to the forest waking up”… wonderful!
I really enjoyed following you along this rain-soaked hidden forest path. :) While floral and creamy notes bounce off my nose, I really appreciate flowers near the woods with a hint of herbal spice. If it must be, I’m okay with a little goat (but only if it looks sweet and doesn’t eat all the flowers!) :)
Very fitting and beautiful review of Aliage 2015. 🏆 I basically grew up with Al(l)iage 1972... it was my mother's favorite scent... and it was made for her. The earlier version was a bit more herbal-dry and had a very loyal following... there was almost nothing comparable back then.
I liked it, but it did have a bit of a goat scent. I noticed that in Vierges et Toreros by ELdO as well. The original version was definitely without the petting zoo. 😁
I know both versions, old and new. Of course, the "old" one was better, but that's in the past. This version is also very nice, no goatiness for me, and the green notes dominate.
Very beautifully described and finely analyzed.
I just discovered this scent recently and was enchanted - just like your description. And you, my favorite chicken, are probably just as much of a hidden forest fairy as I am :)
Right? It's beautiful. I actually find the Vintage-Alliage even more stunning, although you really shouldn't compare the two, since the new version isn't reformulated but completely reorchestrated. So it's a different scent altogether.
But I really like the current version and it has the potential to be a lovely everyday and office fragrance.
Wonderful, I really enjoyed accompanying you on your walk and was immediately with you in my enchanted forest.
I think the goat is an unconscious association. For example, when I see lush meadows, I automatically think of the brown calves I used to care for, and I instantly have that calf scent in my nose...
(And goat 🐐??? No idea 🤷♂️. I can't relate to that at all.)
Such beautiful pictures!
Thank you!

Otherwise, it's great.
This one seems to be pretty good then...
