An Italian Interpretation from Greek Mythology

Unusual perfume names strangely always awaken my thirst for knowledge. And this is the case here as well ("Etra" by Etro).

According to Greek mythology, Etra was the queen of Troezen and the mother of Theseus. However, she was captured by the Trojans as a slave, only to serve Helena (a daughter of Zeus) as a maid.

Okay, I admit, a sad fate.

But how does the house of "Etro" come up with naming one of its fragrances after such a name, behind which lies such a sad story?

Honestly, I have no idea!

If I didn't know the fragrance pyramid, I would spontaneously guess a "heavy" / "dark" scent. But far from it!

This fragrance is, in my view, bright, friendly, optimistic, and positive. It conveys a sense of joy and energy and reminds me, for some reason, of that special and unique light of the Mediterranean.

The wonderful and very well-balanced blend of roses, non-greasy woods, and spices, paired with non-soapy musk and subtle vanilla notes, makes this fragrance so special.

Etra offers Italian lightness without being lightweight.

It lasts surprisingly long on my skin and shows a pleasant presence (= sillage).

A truly successful fragrance from the house of Etro, which can confidently be worn by both women and men.

And thus it is proven that the name and the appearance of a fragrance do not necessarily have to conform.

Etra, the classic, is all about beauty :-) Great comment, it made me want to try it, and I can confirm your impression: a light, bright rose-wood fragrance that lasts surprisingly long. Italian lightness...

Beautifully described. Maybe they wanted to capture the unbroken spirit of Etra despite her sad fate with the scent? Who knows. Trophy for you.

That sounds really interesting again.
I've tried the Etros.

...above all, it has quite a resemblance to the wonderful, but unfortunately discontinued Le Feu d麓Issey. However, Etra is a bit softer, not quite as peppery. A fine, special fragrance that will be joining me this autumn :-))

Sounds great, although the hints of vanilla make me a bit unsure. But I'll keep it in mind and give it a try!
