The White Woman Blows Through the Forest

Grandmother. The pines are already so cold, I think winter is blowing through the forest. The sky is glowing cooler camphor, the White Woman gathers late herbs, breathes menthol and makes oranges disappear, sprinkles eucalyptus on the bark, sings sharply the dark solstices, I will only find brown leaves that cover the dry firs on the ground.
Look, my hands still have spicy warmth, crushed needles clothe my arms, moss creeps around the silhouettes of the trees with the soft scent of forest floor earth, a cloak of old lichens. It has become so quickly silent and dark, Grandmother, I can only see shadows now, I have lost the way to you, I will not take another step further.
***
For Strange Women from Kansas City, Missouri, produce their perfume oils based on organic jojoba and coconut oil in combination with essential oils and plant extracts. The scents and samples come in lovingly designed small boxes with illustrative and descriptive little cards. All fragrances are handcrafted, vegan, free from synthetics, alcohol, parabens, and phthalates.
"Black Forest" is the coniferous forest at the winter solstice. The menthol-cool herbs of the pine and the eucalyptus-sharp camphor of cardamom open the scene. The fir initially wears a dress of oranges and bergamot, before its brown, dry needles become more prominent, together with the sharp, earthy-warm and simultaneously peppery-bitter nutmeg and the increasingly noticeable woody-earthy lichens, creating the authentic impression of a coniferous forest floor. Unfortunately, the White Woman only blows through the winter solstice forest for a few hours and rather quietly.

(With thanks to Dorabella)

You've described the white of darkness very poetically here... simply beautiful... I guess the scent is just like that...

A beautiful tale of wonder, a truly special forest impression, a fascinating scent picture. The White Lady is surely distantly related to the Erlking; at least, I couldn't shake that impression...

The Black Forest sounds very promising along with its grandmother and invites you to linger... even if the visit is supposed to be very short! Your words have beautifully captured everything...

That sounds as enticing as the Black Forest, which I've loved since childhood and visit regularly.

... the cool breath of an approaching winter ... how wonderful - and enchantingly mystical described - - the scent clearly has a cozy wistfulness to it...

That sounds so dark, mystical, and cccccold. Well, that's how a winter forest perfume should smell!

Very mystical and impressive comment! I can't shake the feeling that these must be magical oils. It would actually make a lovely gift for Samhain :)

Smoke must guide the child out of the forest before it freezes. I hope the brand has a smoky scent for the continuation and rescue.

Is this the backstory or the continuation of the fairy tale? Either way, a magical time in a magical forest, what more could you want, even if the fairy tale only lasts a few hours!

A good forest scent is always nice, even though a personal trip to the pine forest would definitely be better and more authentic. Black Forest would probably make a great perfume too, although maybe not for every occasion. I think I’d like it!

Do they know the Black Forest better in Kansas than the Swabians and Badners do? Who knows, who knows...?
