Napoleon vs French Boxer

A good friend of mine has had this one in his collection for a long time. Apparently, the scent is inspired by the French boxer Georges Carpentier, but for me, it’s more like the boxer against Napoleon, if you know what I mean ;)

Now to the scent and the bottle. The bottle is beautifully simple in design with its wooden cap and the engraved logo. It reminds me of the family crest of an old aristocrat or knightly family :D The spray head also dispenses the perfume in a high-quality manner. So it’s not cheaply made like other perfumes I know. It’s also nicely thought out for dosing.
The scent starts off very similarly to Aventus. I detect fresh bergamot notes paired with leather and pepper accords. Personally, I feel there must be some Ambroxan in there, because that freshness is quite suspicious ^^. But compared to Aventus, it’s a bit less leathery and peppery in the opening! In my opinion, it’s simply Frapin's interpretation of Aventus. Instead of Napoleon, they just used a boxer :D Later in the scent development, it remains more peppery and leathery and transitions into a mossy phase. The sweet notes gradually fade away, but it still retains a kind of freshness! Performance is quite good, lasting around 6-8 hours. The sillage is rather, well, mediocre. After 4 hours, it becomes more skin-close and the sillage diminishes.

In conclusion, I must say that the boxer even does some things better than Napoleon, in my opinion. It doesn’t have such strong fluctuations in scent and performance and is even more affordable. With its leathery and peppery notes, it’s definitely more suitable for men. For me, it’s a clear recommendation for anyone who loves Aventus and enjoys scents in this direction.
