Smooth, but too sour
In three words, it's a dark/bitter freshie, at least in the beginning. As time goes by, it becomes less fresh and more dark, mimicking human evolution in life.
The citrus is artificial sweet, as in a soft drink. Then there's the toned down, full, warm, and dry part with tobacco and tonka. I don't smell that much leather. It's there, but it's not obvious. The remaining spicyness must be anise, though I don't recognize this smell.
An interesting thing about this perfume is that it's blended such that none of the components are obvious, except the initial strong citrus. On one hand, this makes it kind of mysterious, on the other, somewhat generic, and like a soup or cloud of notes, without structure. I find the scent slightly irritating, due to either tobacco or some other spicy component. All in all, it's not that fresh, just sour and somewhat irritating. I'm curious how it works in warm weather, because for fall and winter it's too cool and too sour.
This fragrance reminds me of CK One, but instead of being very upbeat, it's very downbeat. Another association I got is Lacoste Essential, although Essential is way lighter, more peppery than bitter, and doesn't have that warm dry part. La Rive Password is a copy of Code, although it doesn't have the warm dry part either, relying on violet instead for the bitterness.
