How can it be that I am the only one who smells "so scandal" by Jean Paul Gaultier?
Many compare RM to a more upscale Alien. First of all, I must say that I don't like a single Mugler fragrance.
However, I was still curious about RM because it is said to be similar and much better, and because it is so highly praised despite its similarity to Alien, and you keep coming across it on YouTube.
So, I first sniffed a sample and tried it immediately.
After the first spray, I can clearly smell the tuberose. To me, it smells almost exactly like so scandal by Jean Paul, just without the raspberry. So floral, instead of fruity. It was a pleasant surprise for me, but I was disappointed that the two fragrances are indeed so similar.
RM has punch. One spray is enough for my entire apartment to smell of it, and it lasts forever, just like so scandal does. I'm still not sure if it's worth the money for me when I can get almost the same thing, just a bit more synthetic, for a fraction of the price. (Addendum and note: I mean "so scandal," not the regular "scandal," because so many have written and inquired. Apparently, many are still not familiar with the new one that was released in 2020. I just checked again because it was bothering me, and both perfumes contain orange blossom, jasmine sambac, and tuberose. Especially tuberose.)
You're absolutely right. So Scandal and Rouge Malachite are very similar!!! So Scandal has the raspberry, which I agree with you on, and Rouge Malachite has a marzipan note for me. Both are very special, beautiful scents. You reminded me of So Scandal again, because I've only liked this type of fragrance with tuberose for a few months now, and I find it really nice on me combined with the fruit.
I just have the Gaultier on my hand and I agree with you. It’s similar. I don’t find much difference in sweetness, except that Route Malachite is a bit cooler due to the more jasmine.
So Scandal smelled **very** sweet like raspberry to me. From what I remember, they don't really resemble each other, but I need to test So Scandal again. However, I think Alien has only a very distant connection to it. I find The Only One Intense by D&G to be similar, just sweeter :-) I have both. Maybe that one would be something for you?

I would actually compare the similarity to that of BR and Cloud. So Scandal is fruitier, while Rouge Malachite is spicier.
