First things first

The fragrance was so well reviewed in a shop that I ordered a bottling.
The bottle has appealed to me very much, the fragrance notes sound brilliant and so well rated he was. When the sample was then there, I sprayed and was immediately delighted and thrilled. Heavenly, soft, slightly powdery without dryness. You could perceive the delicate almond, of course light sweet unsweetened notes. Was I finally going to get a hit after what felt like 79 niche fragrances tested!!! Without compromise, like waiting to see if it gets better or layering so that it gets good....
Not half an hour later remains only dry powderiness with this terrible typical note that is felt in every niche fragrance in it and reminds me very strongly of petroleum.
It is often spoken or written so condescendingly about mainstream fragrances. Why? Because they all smell the same? They don't. They are pleasing, uncomplicated, affordable and well made! That's exactly why they appeal to the masses. I'm going to slowly abandon the niche fragrances and stay arty and boring with the mainstream. I as a person am unique and I need to be able to smell myself well!

I also get something pungent in DD that puts me off the scent. There's nothing wrong with designer fragrances; I have a few from Chanel and Dior - I'll always love them too!

I know this "gum note", that's what I call it, but I can't always make out where it comes from. I smell it in perfumes that have different ingredients. Sometimes I think vanilla, tonka bean, coconut and heliotrope make an unfortunate combination.

You're not alone. In most of the niche scents I've tested, there is just this one interfering note in the drydown, but I don't smell petroleum, I smell incense, health food store, esoteric store or head shop. Only exception so far, Dua, but that's not really niche for me. That eco-impact is very nasty to my nose, so I stick with the mainstreamers. But maybe, maybe...I'll find another niche scent without a disturbing note. The hope dies last.

Too bad :( that sounds really very disappointing. Btw, I find designer fragrances also quite often very good, so why let yourself get something on, what you do not really like.

Goes to me unfortunately similar. This powderiness comes , as so often lately, just synthetically unskilled.
