An unsung hero of pre-LVMH Guerlain

In the immediate years after Guerlain was acquired by LVMH, there were some notably controversial fragrances that somewhat clouded their reputation for a bit. Heritage was one of the last Guerlain fragrances released prior to being acquired by LVMH, and I've always felt that Heritage was a good bookend to mark the end of an era for Guerlain, and a majorly underrated fragrance from the their catalog. It opens up in a similar fashion to Vetiver, bright citruses with a touch of a bitter floral note underneath. It doesn't start out with any sweetness, but it gains a fair amount after it begins to dry. It also gains a very welcome combo of peppery spice and patchouli as it dries down which I was not exactly expecting, but I was extremely elated to get. The dry down here is very patchouli forward, so fair warning to those who don't like patchouli, this one won't be for you. In terms of composition it's quite well done overall, and interestingly doesn't feature a prominent Guerlinade accord like Habit Rouge and Vetiver have, rather becoming it's own unique fragrance.

Although perhaps not having the same legendary reputation as previous Guerlain fragrances, I think it's a weirdly important fragrance in their lineup, and one that could do with a bit more love across the board. Given the price of this fragrance as well as the more unique composition, I think it's hard to pass this one up, especially for any fans of other men's Guerlain fragrances. Bonus points here if you can pick up a vintage bottle!
