Failed orchid

"Pure Orchid" doesn't smell like "pure orchid" - or my idea of it - it has nothing to do with a full-blown orchid and its hypnotic grace and charm. Halle Berry's version is a cheap and dull attempt at an orchid-scent with some nondescript flowers and fruit in a coarse formulation. But maybe "Pure Orchid" is really only for the under thirties and I just don't get this one.

A purple princess

Halle Berry's fragrances tend to stand out from the rest of the celebrity scents due to one key element; simplicity. Both of her fragrances are successful because of their likability and their basic style.

Pure Orchid is a pretty, somewhat sweet, 'purple' floral. The sweetness in this fragrance is tolerable. It is neither candied nor syrupy, just natural and subtle.

To be honest the unique notes like cactus, papaya, anise and sequoia don't feature all too prominently. There is nothing particularly ground-breaking about this fragrance. In some ways, you swear that you've smelt it before. However, with that being said, had this fragrance been too strange it may not have appealed to many.

Pretty like a princess is what I feel when I wear Pure Orchid. Both men and women alike enjoy this, and I must add that anyone of any age could wear this.

The sillage is quite intimate, however the lasting power is commendable. It has a girlish softness that really impresses me. To be honest I would not have expected such a delicate and simplistic fragrance like this to have emerged from Coty with a celebrity name stamped on it.

Pure Blackberry

Halle's Pure Orchid is not pure orchid on my skin at all. As a matter of fact, it can almost be called "Pure Blackberry" on me. No complaints here, however, it is a wonderful fruity fragrance that is somewhat linear and has NO staying power, poor sillage & projection. It lasts as much as a body spray on me. But that being said, this is a perfume you can buy, toss in your bag, and go to the beach without hesitation. Great in summertime or office wear as it is very fresh and cute. I think it would be a safe blind buy for blackberry lovers.

Holy Halle

No, folks, sexy is different! Sorry, but this is more like the innocence of the countryside trying to be a vamp. Our Halle is the super-strict clean lady. Career good, no scandals (as far as I know), Oscar for something where she had to cry like a castle dog. But everything is just a bit over-ambitious. She always has to do everything super-well, better than everyone else. And she usually manages that. Only the intention of this fragrance, she missed it by a bit.

The scent is good, I won't deny that. Initially quite softly fresh, the lemon is not used as heavily here as is often the case.
And then comes blackberry, in a mousse-like manner. Delicious, I must say. But everything together is so delicately tuned, it’s more of a whisper. And sexy ladies don’t whisper, they purr. Nothing is purring here.

The final phase with the woody touch is further layered with fruits. That’s somehow coherent, but still not sexy. It could be that the fragrance, if Halle has ever tested it herself, develops differently on black skin than on white. I can well imagine that. But please, then it should be developed in such a way that a clear statement can be made. - No, I’d rather scratch that, it’s probably not quite politically correct. So let’s say African American skin and Caucasian skin. Yes, that’s better. I do wonder, however, how it smells on Oriental or Indian skin. Hmmmm, the global development of products is heading in a direction that is hard to steer. You can’t have it all.

What I want to say aside from all this global-politically-correct chatter is that the fragrance is nice, but not sexy. The bottle matches the scent beautifully in color, but it’s also not sexy. Halle Berry is sexy when she’s not always so controlled.

fruity warm scent. overall it feels very nice. I can't smell the patchouli at all. I immediately thought of Yves Rocher Ode de l'Amour Passionément in the base note.
