@ElAttarine, oh you lucky one! I recently had the vintage version under my nose too, and I like it a lot more than this one here-although the newer version is still nice, the vintage version has a depth that enchanted me more.
I'm not exactly sure when the bottle is from, but it doesn't have that scent ingredient that makes all the classics smell somewhat similar. So yes, it's definitely the original version ;)
I enjoyed reading your comment and felt it. These are exciting journeys of discovery. Not too long ago, I was still searching for the best scent, and now it's all about the experiences from the exploration itself...
...And you are a wonderful key opener :) Now that I've been with it for a while, I realize how little the soapiness here has in common with the cleanliness obsession of many newer fresh scents. Very likable!
There are some great fruity florals on the market right now, but classic Chypres are just more valuable and superior when it comes to perfume in general.
“…in a floral dress smelling like strawberry mouth and cookie dough…” Amazing! 😂
Oh, it must have been great. According to your description, it’s still good. Nice! 🏆
;) The descriptions of the original suggest that it was a bit more complex, with slight animalistic notes that I can't detect here. But this one still tells wonderful stories.
So I settled in. Halston starts with a flourish, and I can't shake the feeling that the orchestra is racing through the first two movements of a symphony in fast forward. Airy fruity notes rush past me (cool, not sweet and juicy), I read the heart notes from a passing sheet of music, and while everything seems to be in motion, you can already hear the deep bass line of the third movement rumbling in the background: moss. A whole lot of wonderfully herbal, spicy-soapy-earthy moss.
What shocks me the most (as a complete novice in the realm of fragrance history) is the realization that fruity-florals and gourmand scents are probably products of more recent fragrance history, the very things that pushed me into niche because smelling like cookie dough in a floral dress with strawberry lips just makes me look ridiculous. Admittedly, this isn't my scent. But I’m happy to sit here with it for a while and let it tell its story while I try to unravel its threads.
Thanks to Axiomatic!
(I recently scored a vintage bottle!!!)
Thank you for these lines; they are sensitive, honest, and full of poetry.
You build bridges!
Thanks!
😊
I wish I could visit the 70s for a day.
