Nasty Surprise...
~ Inspiration ~
I haven't encountered perfumes by Heidi Klum before. In a fragrance package, there was a small bottle of "Surprise."

~ Bottle ~
In terms of design, it looks like it's from Miss Sixty. There are crisscrossing pink, black, and gold lines on the front.

~ Scent ~
You immediately recognize sour mandarins, magnolias, and bitter roses. A hint of pepper gives it a slightly tingling base note. Benzoin and sandalwood form the foundation. After a while, it becomes a bit powdery and leathery....

~ Longevity ~
On my skin, it lasts only about 3 hours (on clothing and hair a bit longer).

~ Occasion ~
It is most suitable for daytime in spring and autumn. Men can wear it as well, as I find it rather unisex.

~ Conclusion ~
It is too sour-bitter for me, and I don't like the rose note here in combination with the benzoin...

The Question of WHY?
I don't want to step on Heidi's toes, but I really wonder what on earth they were thinking with something like this? Why would anyone bring something like this to market? I wouldn't even spray it on my worst enemy's skin. I would be ashamed to put my name on it. Just the appearance of the bottle is frightening. Some lines drawn across the glass, the cheapest plastic cap, and then somewhere in the mess, you find Heidi Klum and "Surprise" written. It is surprising, for sure! Surprisingly bad. Since I've already commented on one of her fragrances, this one has to face the music as well. I'm not making a secret of it. So, I absolutely cannot stand Heidi Klum. I'm definitely not alone in this. But I would have expected her to have more style and creativity.

I have a sample here, and I already knew the scent when it hit the stores. Not exactly brand new. The first thing I thought was whether the Grand Madame Heidi even saw the bottle before it was produced or if she just screamed, "Do whatever you want. I just need a scent for my teenage fans."

The scent itself starts off piercing. Bitter, spicy. Pepper? Could be. I can't identify it. In any case, someone has massively experimented in the lab with this one. But that didn't last long, and a proper facade of synthetics is built up in the fragrance. It smells like plastic flowers and damp wood, where swarms of white insects are present. This is further paired with something aquatic. I guess the facade is near a pond. I have an image of a frog hopping into the pond, looking for a fly. It's sometimes muggy, sometimes cool. Don't ask me why. That was one of the first associations I had with this scent back then.

Today, the memory and the feeling are the same. The frog remains. If only it had turned into a prince, it would have been much nicer.

The scent then flattens out. It feels loose. Totally out of place. An undefinable fruit note rushes in quickly. It surprisingly holds up well on the skin. However, it feels very cheap and has the character of a clamp. It only lets go when you really scrub at it.

Like Mandelmaus, I can't really imagine anyone wanting to smell like this. Some even own it, and I can be tolerant, but I just don't understand it. The scent has neither style nor is it anything special or otherwise. Well, you can't really expect that in this price range, but there are certainly some things that are quite nice. If I start listing those, we'll still be here until tomorrow..

Heidi, Heidi.. If only you had screamed, you would want more pep, more fire under your ass in your little fragrance. Something that comes across as graceful and elegant. You could have put a bit more effort into the creation. Even my beloved grimaces and pushes me away: "This is just not okay!"

With the bottle, I also wonder if blind lab rats designed it. It is one of the ugliest I've come across, right next to Nicki Minaj.

A true horror for a meaningless scent.

Surprise!
I already have a bad memory of Shine my Rose by Heidi Klum, so I set the bar low here as well. Upon the first spray, I didn't find it that bad: herbaceous fruity and a bit spicy, but then it got worse for me. An intrusive aftershave note overshadows the top note and transforms the fragrance into a strange mixture. Minimal freshness, but also simultaneously musty, old, and dusty-powdery. Nothing pleasant, but a real headache trigger. I can't imagine anyone wanting to smell like this. The bottle would best fit in a child's room, and fortunately, the sillage is weak. However, the longevity is very good. Unfortunately, I can't make anything of the Heidi Klum fragrances.

This is truly a surprise
Because this women's fragrance that I sprayed on my hand and sniffed, hold on...MOOOOment, is quite close to being a men's scent for me!
At first, I wanted to be blinded by the fact that this is obviously a women's perfume, but the more I let my associations run free, the more I envisioned a tanned man, stylishly dressed in a loose white shirt on the beach, casually wearing sunglasses.
I don't know what exactly makes this scent feel masculine to me. It's actually very soft, very floral, and almost mildly soapy smelling of magnolias and roses (by the way, very well captured, it doesn't smell artificial at all), but the base notes emerge very quickly and perhaps it’s these spicy notes from sandalwood and especially from the resin that bring this scent to the edge of masculinity for me.
Overall, it's actually a very nice feel-good fragrance. At first a bit off-putting because it's so full-bodied sweet that you think a banana is about to jump out of your hand. But once the resinous notes come in, it becomes very interesting and somehow pleasantly relaxing.
The scent "tells me" that today is a wonderfully bright spring day!
