The art of distance measurement:
From tobacco leaf
to sour apple must
becomes, with time & distance,
a pleasant hum
of warm, spicy resins.

That sounds really intriguing, apple and tobacco with a hint of animalic… yeah, that could work!
Plus, I would love to try a scent that's a bit of a mixed bag, I haven't had one of those yet…

I've never had it like this before!

I agree with you and several others: you wish to smell delightful directly on your skin; otherwise, it just stays in the travel spray. It has also led to some frustration for me to get that wonderful scent in the air pure.

For me, it's like with paintings, where I always feel drawn in close, even though the actual picture gets lost ;D

Great comparison! :) My insatiable nature just wants both: to stick my nose right up to the picture and admire it from a proper distance.

Sour would be rather difficult.

I'm afraid the apple cider would bother me too much here.

Yes, it's challenging, even for my nose.

Cider in fragrances... Better not....

That's true, it's usually too sweet for me even as a drink. The resin at the end, however, is very nice.

Sounds very solid! Is it more sweet or spicy-resinous-woody in the base?
Translated · Show originalShow translation
JeobJeob 2 years ago
Sweet at first, but in the base, it becomes spicy-resinous with a hint of earthiness (half tobacco, half patchouli).

I know that strange fascination too ;) When I hear the name of the fragrance, I think of a pub crawl.

I find it very intriguing, but I’ll stick my neck out and say: it’s probably not really your thing.

Sounds interesting, apple can be tricky; I’d have to assess it on a case-by-case basis.
Translated · Show originalShow translation
JeobJeob 2 years ago
I usually struggle with apple; the sweet-sour note combined with a hint of civet makes it hard for me to appreciate up close. But from a distance, it works.

A little bit. I don't really feel warm about it up close.

That might be due to my old age, but I actually like it when fragrances can be sprayed on easily and smell good from any angle and distance. On the plus side (I almost deleted this since I borrowed "the plus side" from someone, but I'll just leave it here playfully ;)): I assume that very few people sniff your neck from 5 mm away (right?!). So you definitely smell nice. Poor, but well-scented. ;)

I feel the same way. By the way, I’d lend you my collection anytime (I hardly get any royalties 😇), and I must say: my neck is temporarily bare, but from arm's length, I smell fabulous.

...This one definitely wants to be worn rather than just sniffed here and there. Absolutely. I'm rarely a fan of dabbing when it can be sprayed. The apple cider smell is still "special."

Apple cider and I probably won't be lifelong friends, but it was interesting to experience again that "nose on the wrist" is just one part of the truth when it comes to a fragrance impression.

I know exactly what you mean. You always want to get closer for a better sniff, but it only works from a distance. I think there's a certain intention behind it... It's meant to be this way...

Maybe. Although I’d actually like to have both - the joy of the scent when waving my hands ;) and the pleasure of the smell upon closer inspection.

Often, fragrances smell better from a distance, or that's the effect the perfumers aim for.

It's not, although apple is usually tricky for me. However, I haven't encountered such a pronounced discrepancy between how it smells on the skin and in the sillage before.

Caught between effort and delight. The further the nose wanders from the spray point, the more beautiful this sour, spicy apple cider becomes, mingling with rather dark tobacco. Meanwhile, a little cat has refined the apple cider spice mix at its own discretion. This combination of sweet-sour-spicy-tobacco-animalistic is a bit off-putting up close, but the scent trail that sometimes brushes against me while I animatedly wave my hands in conversation is so lovely that I initially find myself searching for the source of the smell, as they seem so unrelated. By the time the long warm-resinous dry down comes, the scent noticeably gets closer to me and makes me question my "hand-to-nose" scent testing technique. This one definitely wants to be worn rather than just sniffed in spots.
With heartfelt thanks to @SirLancelot for the loan!
