In search of a new signature scent, a constant companion that suited me, an alter ego so to speak, I wandered through the perfume departments of the small town like through a nightlife. I met old friends and acquaintances there. Jil Sander Sun, we never really had anything to say to each other, she always seemed too conventional, too conformist... Or Kenzo Flower, once my best friend, but somehow we had grown apart. I had left her in her romantic naivety, taken different paths, grown up...
And then Joop Le Bain, still the glammed-up powerhouse in a purple acrylic sweater and nude lipstick. And oh dear! All about Eve was here too, wearing a tattoo choker and a white crocheted sweater with camel boots. We had met in dance school and immediately knew we had nothing in common.
I also met a few nice newcomers... The Kenzo siblings Aqua and Air... Bright, light, and cheerful both, Aqua with a flower in her hair, Air in a sheath dress with a geometric pattern. Maybe we’ll go on vacation together sometime.
It got late and I had to head home soon. And there, at the exit, she caught my eye... like an apparition! Elegant and infinitely stylish at the same time, in a knee-length tweed coat, French cut under the red hippie floppy hat, destroyed jeans, bright sneakers, and beautiful even without makeup. Wasn't she the little sister of Carla Bruni? 'That's Twilly,' they whispered to me. Someone introduced us. Twilly spoke with a deep, melodic voice. What she said made sense. She spoke directly, but never unfriendly, so charming and a bit sexy with a French accent. She was an intellectual beauty, could enchant but also intimidate a little. Despite all her charm, she remained a bit distant. Her look was stylish with class, never cheap, never intrusive, somehow retro, yet modern.
She was an artist, had a British father who went to school with Mick Jagger and a French mother. She grew up in Paris, where she studied at the Ecole de Beaux Arts, later in London, College of Arts or something. She had written and photographed for an independent art magazine. A scholarship allowed her to spend half a year in L.A., and she was currently living with a friend in San Francisco and learning pottery. A woman, a wow. Twilly as a fragrance: The pyramid is rather flat, minimalist, but very beautifully composed: the sharpness of ginger in the top note remains consistently present, gently caressed by the tuberose, and as the scent develops, it becomes warmer, slightly powdery, slightly soapy. I find it wonderful that the sharpness lasts so long, giving the fragrance a distinctive twist despite all the light sweetness. I think that’s cool.
One must use it sparingly, otherwise it becomes too heavy, due to the sandalwood, almost an oriental. Thus, it’s more suited for autumn and winter. See tweed coat. For me, this is a scent that makes you look dressed and chic even without an elaborate 'outfit'.
And now my personal 'unfortunately': my husband does not like the scent at all. He’s more of a fresh type... Oh man...
People, good luck with Twilly and many greetings!
Adieu!
Chance.
Genau so!
2022 folgt.
