Cut off the head! ;-)

In my nose, the top note is amazing! Because somehow green-sweet, you rarely smell it, very original anyway. "Wow!" I thought (I have a sample) ... for about 3-5 minutes, then unfortunately the scent becomes interchangeably sweet. Maybe it was intentionally produced this way: Spray it on the cardboard strip at Douglas, think "cool," and buy it!?

As bad as The Scent is treated here, I don’t find it that terrible! Boss Bottled and Hugo are just as much a part of my twenties (which are quite a while back) as Boss Soul and Dark Blue are to my thirties (bad, right?!) ... I have the feeling that Boss is generally criticized here, and the more negative reviews there are, the more users naturally join in!

That said: This forum also thrives on its self-proclaimed influencers! ;-) But tastes are simply different, and that's a good thing, because otherwise there would be uniformity instead of diversity. The Scent may be a soft and ultimately unspectacular-sweet fragrance, but I don’t like to reach for extremes that bore into my nose like the exhaust fumes of a Vespa standing in front of me at the traffic light!

I don’t want to attract unnecessary attention with my fragrance, but rather smell good for myself and my girlfriend and not unnecessarily stir things up with my office colleagues! ;-) Nevertheless: If the top note of The Scent lasted beyond two or three hours, it would be one of my favorites. Does anyone possibly have a tip for me?

In the end: Yes, a bit arbitrary, sweet, tailored to the standard autumn evening. But not worse than some extremely expensive EDT that is praised here over the "green clover," even if it often disappears after the opening! ;-)

You're definitely speaking my mind!

Well written, thank you! :) I feel the same way; I've often wondered how casually some hyped fragrances smell to me personally. Boss may not usually create the 8th wonder of the world, but the quality is often quite good. When you know a lot of fragrances, they can seem a bit cliché, obvious, and mainstream, but almost everything is quite usable and pretty good. :) Boss trophy ;)

Then Boss should finally deliver again. A lot has been released besides No. One, Hugo, and Bottled, but the ball just doesn't hit the net. Since Boss is so widely represented, you can test "every" scent from them. Done and done - and they are all bland and interchangeable. So your comment hits the mark ;).

I definitely don't belong to those who "generally trash Boss" or "naturally join in the more negative criticism there is." There may be users like that, but I have to veto such generalizations. While I did give a negative review for The Sent, I wrote a glowing comment about Boss Bottled Unlimited. For me, it's all about the scent itself, and not other comments, manufacturers, or anything else.

I see your criticism similarly; either a fragrance becomes a hype or it gets torn apart by many. For example, L'Aventure has a current rating of 8.4. For whatever reason. With Boss, it's also the case that there's a German family behind it, along with the mass producer Coty, which clearly segments its fragrances. Boss is positioned in the mid-range. Below, you find Davidoff or CK, and further up, Alexander McQueen.

I don't think Boss fragrances are as bad as they're rated here. However, I really don't like The Scent. Among designers, I consider Chanel and Dior to be the best. Boss just can't compete with them. But then again, Boss perfumes are cheaper.
