One should not look a gift fish in the ...
At this point, I would like to appropriately thank the Parfumo Christmas giveaway from last year, where I won this fragrance.
The anticipation was great, and the package arrived just in time for the holiday. I was at least not disappointed with the contents. Although Hugo Boss has not been a brand I pay serious attention to for some time now, I had not previously engaged with either the regular or the Intense version of The Scent.
I left the packaging unopened in the cellophane and revealed to my father the possibility of having the fragrance I won, provided he had tested it somewhere and wanted it. Alternatively, I would have gifted it to someone else or kept it for myself if I liked it.
Well, since he recently found it okay (he didn’t exactly do cartwheels or joyful flips - which would have been quite surprising), I handed it over to him. However, I did open it and use it briefly, as I wanted to know what I might be missing out on.
The little ginger note at the beginning is not too bad. While it is not as intense and crisp-spicy as hoped, I did not expect any miracles here. I was all the more surprised by the Maninka fruit. Unfortunately, I have no means of comparison, as I have not encountered the original fruit either visually or olfactorily. What I perceive in The Scent Intense is more something I would categorize as a sweet, dull compote made from somewhat muted apricot plus carrots, served in a wooden bowl. At least it is unusual and not unpleasant, but neither really delicious nor appetizing, nor seductive. Aside from that, it becomes a bit monotonous over time - and that heart note has quite some endurance - with a hint of underlying synthetic trace that cannot be denied.
After several hours, the vanilla timidly makes an appearance, excellently integrated and with a rounded finish in relation to the Maninka fruit. And when I close my eyes and think about it, it seems to me that there is also a hint of leather involved.
Thus, I must admit that The Scent Intense is not as bad as feared, but also not so good that I would regret having passed it on to my father. Now he can enjoy it, and I am happy for him.

We often use stuff like that in the guest bathroom as a "air freshener" :D

I couldn't really get into The Scent. The beginning was actually the best part. After that, it was just uninspired sweet spiciness with a heavy synthetic veil. It doesn't seem like anything has really improved.

I'm sure the marketing team is still laughing about that Maninka idea today.

Fair comment with the usual strong headline.

Haha, wonderful and thanks, the last paragraph is great and I just burst out laughing into my tablet. So if you really liked the Hugo, you would have been annoyed that you gifted it to your dad? And since you find it just okay, you’re happy to let him enjoy it? It definitely hints that you’re a perfume addict, but also suggests that the father-son dynamic can be just as complex as that between mothers and daughters.
