Fragrant Security

It's raining. Relentlessly. The weather app talks about fog, but what falls here daily is fine, icy cold rain. Outside, it is dreary, gray, and dull. One just wants to snuggle up in warmth and forget this November gray.

With Drifting by Ikiryo, this is no challenge. A dreamily delicate, transparent scent that contains pretty much everything that enchants me. Finest white musk, a sensual jasmine note, and warming vanilla. The fragrance pyramid also lists lavender and Peru balsam, and instead of jasmine, I find a synthetic variant with Hedione. However, I smell what I described above. My first impression reminds me of my good old vintage cashmere, just without geranium and rose and the fruit. The overall mood is still quite similar. The wonderful and unfortunately discontinued Macadam by Il Profumo also comes to mind with Drifting. Only, here everything is a bit more delicate and transparent and far less opulent.

At the outset, the synthetics are noticeable. A kind of glue note, which I also like to perceive in Galaxolid. Fortunately, it doesn't linger on the skin for long. On paper, Drifting actually doesn't smell nice. Here, the glue association remains for quite a while. Definitely not a perfume that should be tested on a strip or something similar. This oily perfume needs warm skin to unfold in all its beauty.

Drifting wears beautifully, even if the path with the nose directly to the sprayed skin areas can initially seem a bit animalistic. The delicate clouds of musk and vanilla that rise to my nose are velvety, tender, and beautiful; I can no longer discern any animal notes. And - drumroll: Mr. Polly also likes Drifting. It reminds him of children's toys, but I couldn't care less about that. For all I care, he can think of burnt electronics. As long as the beautiful scent is approved *grin*.

Drifting is like fragrant security. A perfume that makes the dreary, gray everyday life, yes, all the unpleasantness fade away for a short time. A perfect scent for this time of year, which sometimes makes me a bit sad, just like January and February do.

And again, a few fitting lines from singer-songwriter Ronan Harris come to mind with this scent:

When I wander and far I stray
When this world has failed me
Give me strength and heal my soul
When I'm broken when I'm lost,
And roads seem neverending
Be the path that brings me home
When it feels I can't go on
Let your armour cover me.
(VNV Nation - Armour - 2018)

Many thanks to Gandix for the opportunity to test this. I need to have it!

A late cozy trophy from me.
The scent has a very interesting progression, starting from the synthetic notes to the successful Peru balsam note and then to the lavender.
I see it as a cyber version of Caron Pour un Homme.
I like it!

What a gem! I bought it in the summer, but the scent was unfortunately too much then. But now in the fall, it’s an absolute dream😍 I can really relate to your enthusiasm for this fragrance.

I would be out with the glue-synthetic note, but the way you describe and make it appealing here, as a not-so-unconditional lavender lover, I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the great review!

Sounds really good, I'm definitely in for lavender. I've already tested one scent from Ikiryo that I liked, and the others seem very interesting too.

It's always astonishing how a fragrance comes across on paper or on the skin, and it's clearly a lovely mood booster.
The text is beautiful, it sounds like a prayer.

I feel like I can smell the fragrance and that I'm now close to the tiled stove, sheltered from the November weather... very vividly described with comparison hints... oh, and it's nice that Mr. Polly likes it too :D

November is really a terrible month. I hate it when the last leaves fall and the trees stand bare like skeletons. And then there's that awful gray. You need a cozy scent to provide some comfort. Unfortunately, the brand hasn't convinced me so far.

With your enthusiastic description, I’m not surprised by the last sentence :-) The last few days have been really uncomfortable-lead-gray twilight, drizzly dampness, and awful temperatures. We definitely need such comforting scents.

Okay, he's also good with kids, so maybe not so creepy after all, haha!
