The road of nostalgia leads me today directly to lavender water: what a beautifully old-fashioned expression!
Coming from "Yardley's English Lavender," I now land here.
"Mouson Lavender - only real with the mail coach!" Yes, I still remember that advertisement.
And my grandma, who would spray it on special occasions. First came Mouson Lavender, then the "good" dress! And of course the "scented" handkerchief in her handbag.
How proud I was when I received a small empty bottle from her. I remember it lying on my pillow for weeks. Its somewhat baroque shape delighted me, and when I opened it, I could still perceive that pure lavender scent for a long time.
I believe little girls love to sniff their grandmas and carry a piece of their scent into their lives.
Even though we lose it over the years, it shows that it is still alive somewhere deep down - just like now.
Just a few days ago, I read here in a blog that we have forgotten how to follow and trust our senses. We have managed to spill and forget a part of our natural sensuality!
But perhaps it is also because many of these beloved scents have simply disappeared from the market. Even if they seem a bit old-fashioned from today's perspective; they grounded us and reminded us in a simple way of something very original: of ourselves!
Wonderful comment - I really like it! I feel the same way about the scent... it also reminds me of my grandma and my childhood. I used to collect the fragrances and soaps from Mouson (and other companies from that time) quite intensively, and I still have a nice collection. Just the packaging alone is so nostalgically beautiful...
