Jack Richmond Jack Perfume by Richard E. Grant 2020

banana porridge in Richmond park
Why the fuck am I smelling banana?
This is an amazing scent, so incredibly evocative of fresh, biting air, moss and dirt, something like a fresh fire burning. Smoky cade oil, and filthy, life affirming moss and ginger. I swear to GOD there is a banana note here. Or an oat-like note. Persolaise, in his interview with Richard E. Grant, mentioned tomatoes - I get that, too. Apparently, so does Richard, because he immediately lit up at Mr P’s mention of it. There is something fruity, vegetal. It is so strong in the opening, and it intensifies in the heart of the fragrance. The smokiness, the rugged masculinity, is present throughout the entire fragrance, with the Cade oil and the woody earthiness creating a warm base.
I initially was sceptical of this fragrance, I’ve never really been more for smoky perfumes - something I usually prefer in a candle. But this is an incredibly well balanced, hearty scent. If you’re reading this, and can get your hands on it, also try the original Jack: lime, marijuana, oud. Magic.
You’re in Richmond park, sitting in the green. There are deer lazing nearby, and you’re rugged up in the brisk winter air. You’re eating Banana porridge. You’re listening to the birds. A slice of the countryside, in London.
