In the mid-80s, carrot pants, shoulder pads, and so-called oversized blazers were en vogue;
and in the mid-80s, to be precise in 1986, Jean-Louis Scherrer launched a fragrance that I find enchanting, classic, elegant, and very appealing.

Wait, Jean-Louis who? For those who do not (yet) know him:

Jean-Louis Scherrer was a Parisian fashion designer who, as a child, had to endure the terrible years of World War II and worked his way up with indomitable will and ambition, achieving an impressive career.

Before entering the world of fashion, however, he tried his hand as a dancer at the 'Conservatoire de Paris', a school for music and dance founded in 1795. As a talented young man, great hopes were justifiably placed on him before he had to say goodbye to dancing due to an injury and turned to Haute Couture.

Scherrer took his first steps in the new industry alongside, or rather for, Christian Dior when he joined him in 1956 and was able to contribute his knowledge and skills as a design assistant next to Yves Saint Laurent. After Dior's death, he continued to serve Louis Féraud, another fashion designer and artist, before fulfilling his dream of starting his own company in 1962.

Years of contacts and relationships abroad, particularly in the USA, quickly made him an internationally renowned gentleman in his field. His fashion was particularly known for its opulence and luxury. Garments adorned with pearls and elaborately embroidered were his signature.

Amidst these successes, he - like many designers - soon launched fragrances. The two Chypre classics from 1979, both in the form of EdT and EdP, are certainly among the most famous perfumes that bear his name.

Scherrer 2 EdT, on the other hand, goes in a slightly different direction. It is a sensual-spicy oriental floral bouquet that immediately captivated me. Warm, balsamic, animalistic, clean, floral; all adjectives I would attribute to this fragrance.

Right from the first whiff of the spray head, I was very taken. At the beginning, one perceives the intense floral notes that form a wonderfully refreshing union with a fruity mandarin note. Imagine standing in a garden of wonderfully fragrant flowers, enjoying a sparkling juicy mandarin.

But it doesn't take long for the first spicy tones to make their appearance, as I particularly notice the cinnamon and myrrh here. These replace the initial flower power and give the fragrance its sensual-spicy and slightly sweet-balsamic accord, which is also enveloped by minimal resinous nuances.

Towards the base, the fragrance shows its multifaceted development once again, acquiring a soapy note where I even detect a hint of animalic, but in a very noble and clean manner. Overall, the fragrance maintains its thoroughly feminine aura throughout its entire course.

The noble bottle made of clear glass stands out for its elegance and is designed to symbolize the New York skyscrapers of the 30s with its slim and straight-lined appearance.

I find the fragrance quite intense at the beginning and would therefore advise being cautious with the dosage. Here, 2-3 spritzes are, in my opinion, completely sufficient, as they last a good 8 hours on my skin. One can probably imagine that it has a good kick due to its complex composition. Friends of larger sillage clouds will surely be well catered for and will enjoy it.

In my view, it is somewhat better suited for the colder season, as despite the floral character at the beginning, it would be a bit too strong and multilayered for warm weather for me personally.
Conclusion:

The Scherrer 2 EdT is, in my eyes, a sensual-creative and captivatingly attractive 80s oriental classic with a chypre-like touch from the Haute Couture world of the French capital, which I find incredibly beautiful.

Opulent and attractive, sexy and stylish. Complexity in the noblest form is what you get with this fragrance, which I associate in a way with classic paintings from earlier baroque times.

Although classified for women, I still wear it with pleasure, as I have never cared for gender classifications or the like.

Wear and smell what and how you want...

Fascination knows no boundaries - and classifications into genders certainly do not...
