Think of the most irresistible woman you know…

And she probably wears this. She’s a vintage baddie that likes to dabble in sweetness occasionally, but 9 times out of 10, she smells of natural flowers. All the flowers. She always looks stunning without having to try too hard, but she’s an absolute knockout when she does decide to dress up a bit more.

If you know Erin Parson Makeup, you know that she is one of the most delectable women out there, and she’s highly know for her love of vintage beauty. Everything from makeup, to fashion, all the way down to fragrances. Her fragrance content is some of my favs cause she likes wearing a bit of everything. I came across Joy watching one my videos and when she described it as the “ultimate floral”, I had to try it expeditiously. My love for florals comes from my mama, who almost exclusively wore florals growing up. Chanel was her muse.

Of course, I did some research to find that Joy had been reformulated quite a few times, so I found an Etsy seller who was selling *tiny* samples of the vintage version. When that sample came in, I can’t tell you how quickly I ran to smell it.

Miss Joy starts off with a blast of aldehydes, lots of greenness, and a bite of fruitiness. It’s a lot to take in, but it’s so hypnotizing. Now the mid to dry down is wear the magic really kicks up. That civet note in the base comes to play quickly as the scent dries down, but it never goes too animalic or “pissy” as some would say. It’s definitely not a “clean” scent, but it’s not particularly dirty either? The rose is definitely a main character here, but she’s heavily supported by the mix of white florals and some other fantasy florals. I don’t get a ton of sandalwood, but I think it helps to support the musk from being totally overtaken by the civet and adds a warm “fuzziness” to the overall scent. It’s so incredibly beautiful that I almost feel like an imposter wearing it. It’s a very luxe and it never looses it charm throughout its wear.

Joy by Jean Patou is the vintage floral bouquet I’ve been searching for my whole life. I have a 1 oz splash (was lucky to get a vintage bottle!!) on the way. I’m so excited and lowkey honored to add this gem to my collection.
