Kokorico Jean Paul Gaultier 2011 Eau de Toilette

Before I read the comments here, I would have expected a strong, loud, intense, sweet scent from the bottle alone, based on the fragrance notes and in reference to Le Male. These expectations were not met at all - whether this is to be seen positively is something everyone has to decide for themselves.

Now let’s talk about the scent:
According to the fragrance pyramid, the top note consists solely of fig leaf. I can’t make much of that, because to be honest, I have no idea what fig leaf is supposed to smell like. I find the top note very "herbaceous," but not in a fresh-green way, rather more bitter, almost slightly astringent. Unlike the other commentators here, I do not perceive chocolate/cocoa at all during the first 1-2 hours.

I don’t find the top note unbearable, but during a 30-second quick test in the perfumery, it could initially confuse many potential customers who have similar expectations to mine at the beginning. For me personally, the top note is not that important, as it usually transitions into the heart note after a few minutes anyway. However, it holds great significance for the perfumery industry and retail, as many purchasing decisions are made directly during testing.

The top note surprisingly lasts 1-3 hours on me and then slowly transitions into a significantly more pleasant cocoa-patchouli-wood note. This is noticeably less sweet than it initially sounds. Unfortunately, I do not (yet) know L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme [Eau Extrême], a comparison with this would certainly be interesting at this point.

I find the longevity quite okay; I get about 6-8 hours out of it. However, I would have expected a bit more for a rather sweet-woody scent, so only 50%.

It’s definitely worth a test, but wait until the base note!

Update:
After wearing this scent more frequently lately, my opinion has changed somewhat. I can now also warm up to the top note and recognize slight hints of cocoa. I still find the scent rather subtle, not really suitable for the disco, but wearable in many situations on cooler days. Rating increases from 60% to 80%. The longevity is also better than initially thought, hence the increase to 75%.
