The Scent of the Snail
Of course - the bottle says it all! The decorative little flask was primarily acquired for its appearance! It simply looks great on the shelf. But I am always curious about the scent of my minis!
In any case, my specimen is intact, even though the fragrance dates back to the mid-80s, which is evident in its composition. “Fleur de Nacre” starts off floral-spicy and moderately sweet. I guess it features (spicy) carnation and (sweet) gardenia or tuberose - but that’s really just a rough estimate. In any case, there’s a decent amount of aldehydes present - because the scent soon becomes quite soapy on me, but in a pleasant way. However, it unfortunately becomes increasingly harsher on my skin. Oakmoss surely plays a role here! And it’s the kind that made me react with a nasty little tension in my forehead muscles as a child with some of the era-typical chypre perfumes from the 70s - not a classic headache, but still unpleasant. Since this seems to be my individual reaction to a specific ingredient and I want to be fair, I give it a 7.0, because FdN is a solidly crafted, era-typical perfume that surely has or had its fans.
