The sky is blue... and the beach ball flies high!

As a fan of the original JS Sun Men (a modern classic!), I was naturally excited when a new offshoot was announced months ago. Then things went quiet around Sun Day Men, and I was well entertained and distracted by many new releases. Sun Men stood for simplicity and pure beach feeling, so let's see what Day Men conjures up. After all, Sun Men was already a very bright scent for daytime; how could Day Men top that?

Day Men is a blend of Armani Code Ultimate, Boss in Motion, Le Male, and the original Sun Men. It is softer and feels like balm on the skin. Not only because of the blue bottle does one immediately think of a light blue sky over the beach. However, it is not necessarily brighter than the original and certainly not better, which is why it seems to have leaned too heavily on the competition and played it safe. You can smell a sea breeze mixed with squished orange and a lot of apple. In the end, the benzoin and the Le Male influence come through. It’s a fun mix of various successful perfumes, but the formula doesn't quite work for me. However, it is definitely better than, for example, the newer Guccis or some Bulgari scents, which also have that wet feeling but either disgust or bore. Sun Day Men smells spontaneous and fun, child-friendly, fresh, and sunny. But it lacks the timeless classic potential of the original.

The bottle is nice and extremely 90s. Here too, I prefer the simple white of the original. The sillage is good, but when sweating on the beach and with sunscreen + water and sand from all sides, the scent will have a hard time asserting itself. Perhaps it is better suited for a beach or forest hike on a late spring day. It can easily last more than 6-7 hours with its acceptable longevity!

Overall, it falls somewhere between mild disappointment and solid summer successor! One of the better new releases of 2013 so far, especially for fans of the blockbusters I mentioned!

way too sweet for a men's summer fragrance, and it reminds me of Ma Dame by Gaultier (for women).
