And once something to take with you...

I admit: As much as I enjoy opulent, expensive fragrances during the colder months, I am not particularly eager to spend a lot on a scent in the summer. Since I am absolutely not a fan of heat and sun, I usually find it sufficient to have a small selection of light fragrances in my portfolio during the summer, which don't need to be particularly sophisticated. The current "CK One Summer 2013" and an "Acqua di Gio" - that's really all I need until September.
And then Jil Sander comes along and presents her latest creation "Sun Day Men" to my sense of smell. Having been introduced to what feels like 48 samples of the classic "Sun Men," which the turquoise giant regularly tosses into my basket, I was already somewhat familiar with the father of the new summer variant. I quite like its opening, although the scent completely disappears from my skin within two hours. Would "Sun Day Men" perform better...?
Given the affordable price of just under 40 euros for 125ml, I was drawn to the blue bottle. Admittedly, its bulkiness and vibrant blue make it somewhat eye-catching. However, anyone holding the white plastic cap feels reminded of a silicone spray bottle from the hardware store in terms of quality. The sprayer itself also doesn't seem particularly high-quality. It's no comparison to the great Dior spray heads. Additionally, the bottle is so wide that it requires large hands to aim a spray without the bottle slipping from your grasp.
I own other bottles that look so elegant that I wipe them down after use to avoid leaving fingerprints. However, with this "Sun Day Men" specimen, I don't feel any real affection. It's more suited for clumsy hands that would toss the bottle into a beach bag with gusto: practical, but not high-quality.
Now, onto the scent: Upon first spraying, it does remind me somewhat of the "original" and carries a certain sunscreen note. This is actually quite pleasant, although sweeter than "Sun Men." As it develops, this sweetness lingers on my skin AND does not fade away by evening. I would rate the longevity at about seven to eight hours. Throughout the day, the beachy note wafts up to my nose. This is certainly nice for occasional use, but it would probably become too overpowering for daily wear.
For me, "Sun Day Men" is a summer fragrance that I would definitely wear to the office, but I will especially use it when I jump in the shower again in the height of summer, for example, and want something refreshing afterward. The scent is well-suited for the terrace. However, if I were standing in front of the shelf again at this moment, I would reach for the classic "Sun Men" because it simply comes across as more appealing.

I love it too and actually don't find it sweet in a cloying way at all. It's more of a light, pleasant sweetness. But I’m really into sweet perfumes. Also, **Sun Men Fresh** is delicious, but unfortunately, it’s no longer available.
