"Deluxe Sunscreen"

I owned this fragrance once shortly after its release, back when my nose had sniffed far fewer EDTs and the selection of men's perfumes was still significantly limited. I remember a flattering all-rounder that you couldn't really go wrong with. My buddies and I wore this fragrance alongside Relax, Hugo, Bogner Man, Photo, CK One, and the like. Now, about 15 years later, my impression of Sun Men is confirmed. Some things just never change! ;-)

As the name suggests, Sun Men is designed for summer. However, the freshness factor here, unlike most mainstream competitors in the (back then) mid-price range, is only subtly pronounced. A pleasant sweetness mixes into the composition, although I can't particularly identify any specific ingredient. Additionally, there is a subtly laid herbal-spicy note that, in my opinion, could be a bit more pronounced. Then Sun Men might have fulfilled its summer escort duty for me! ;-)

Sun Men is indeed a very distinctive fragrance, but to me, it lacks that special kick. If I had to make an association, it would be the sunscreen or cream mentioned in the subject line. In that sense, the theme of "sun" is indeed captured, but I just can't shake this comparison from my nose or my brain. Of course, there are nicely scented creams with sun protection factor, but my EDT shouldn't remind me of that too much.

So Sun Men remains stuck for me somewhere in no man's land between skincare and fragrance experience. Hardly anyone will tell me that I smell strange or unusual, but I don't expect compliments either. It will probably take several summers before I finish my 100 ml, and there likely won't be any special occasions involved.
