When I was young

Sometimes I drift off into my thoughts and reminisce about the 80s. How young we were back then, how beautiful life was.
No Corona, no pollution, no corrupt politicians (at least we didn't know about it ;-) ), no whatever.... ;-)

Of course, that's nonsense; there was plenty of unpleasant stuff back then too, but you tend to forget that, it's only human, right?!

What I have never forgotten is the scent of Jil Sander Woman number three. An extraordinary brew, but back then I simply didn't think about it. It was bought, applied, smelled amazing, and that was it. When the bottle was empty, it was just repurchased.

Over the years, however, we lost touch, and every now and then I thought I should get it again. And what happened? It was no longer available, oh shock. This can't be true, what a shame. I was sad, but there were so many other perfumes.

Well, what can I say, a friendly sales associate had it just a few hours in the souk, and I was probably the first to ask about it for once. And now I have it, isn't that amazing?

The perfume is really hard to describe; it’s spicy, woody at the same time, has a hint of aftershave, but those are just moments when it smells like that, it feels so familiar to me, yet also foreign, it’s elegant but also boyish, it’s floral, yet not very feminine, it’s... well, what is it, it’s unique, I’m sorry, I can’t describe it.

Just look at the notes, everything is there; one might think the perfumer didn’t quite know what to do. But far from it, the components come together perfectly, and I can’t say, like Monsieur Leimbacher, that it doesn’t touch me deeply.

But it doesn’t help; it’s simply no longer available in stores, it’s an oldie, (way too expensive - see > Bucht). I’m very glad I managed to snag a small bottle and will cherish it dearly, only spraying it occasionally, just for me.

You described this scent wonderfully. It goes just as well with the little black dress as with jeans and a leather jacket. One of those fragrances I still miss to this day.
And now I'm listening to Supertramp...

I loved that one and wore it often at university. It was my "intellectual perfume." So fresh, not cheesy, and androgynous.

You’re speaking to my soul a hundred percent! I also loved wearing Woman III back in the 80s; it’s the best from Jil Sander for me. I was able to get a small bottle here in the souk, and I now treasure it like a gem. And it’s still perfectly fine! Thanks for the lovely reminder of this amazing fragrance.

Beautiful memories of a very lovely scent.
Luckily, minis are still circulating. When you get one, the question 'Is it still good?' is always as exciting as the fragrance memory that comes from the bottle...

I also miss the scent. Not so much the '80s, because I remember feeling sorry for the young people back then. I was already grown up and jaded, and I pitied everyone who had to spend their formative years during the HIV crisis. With "When I was young," I romanticize the late '60s and early '70s.

I'm definitely not one of those people who constantly shout "Everything was better back then." But some things were definitely more carefree than today.
This scent is amazing. The Jil Sander world of the past resonates with me more than today's. And it's great that you managed to get the fragrance. It was meant to be :-)

I feel the same way about 'Bogner woman', also discontinued. A typical 90s scent. But recently, at a flea market... there was a mini!!! Unbelievable, I was so excited. I totally get you ;-)

For me, it's also a 10. One of the most beautiful women's fragrances. But just as good as a men's scent. It brings together so much. A timeless treasure.

I'm completely with you; every now and then, you have to drift back into the past, reflecting on the shows, clothes, scents, and activities you experienced. Childhood made everything somehow exciting and interesting.
It was nice...

I do something similar with my vintage perfumes too. I wear them, but not every day. And when they're empty, I can say, yes, I had them. I'm also really attached to my childhood scents. I totally get you.
