A close miss

I wanted this to be the Joop I'd like (although I already quite like Joop Homme Wild). It's a decent fragrance, not bad, not particularly good either, perfectly meh. I wonder how I would perceive if I didn't know it was Joop.

It starts very smooth, very uniform, to the point of being flat and one dimensional. Syrupy vibe, like a concentrated fruit extract you buy to mix with water and drink, or a jelly/pudding, but powdery due to iris. The scent is sweet, though not as much as I'd expect from the notes list. It's a little sour in the the 1 Million manner, especially at the beginning. The sourness spoils the scent for me.

It's also aromatic due to lavender, although it took me a while to notice this (or the scent evolves with time). Lavender attacks your nose as it usually does, and it's unpleasant. Maybe that's the problem with this fragrance. I think this is it. It's like you're smelling a cool lavender wall, and everything else is behind it. There's also a nose blindness factor. At first I can smell the nice background and then it's only the aromatic part gripping my sinuses.

All in all, a gentle mix, at least initially, but unfortunately also quite insipid and somewhat artificial. Then it's all lavender with some deliciuous sweetness coming through.

I don't know what is similar to this. Valentino Uomo, kind of, but this is more uniform and smoother. As an alternative, I would suggest Valentino Uomo Born in Roma Intense, similar vibe.

For a "perfum" the performance is rather weak, about an averate EDP, I guess. The bottle mostly fits the initial expression of the scent, especially the red color. Later it doesn't.

TLDR: lavender makes this too sour and too aromatic in the typical lavender fashion.
