Sugary, feminine rose jam with metallic spicy saffron
Sweet Diamond Pink Pepper 25 was never on my list to try, but since it came with the Kayali discovery set, I was curious to try it out, although I was wary of the rose note. I often dislike roses since they're over-used in body, hair and skin care. They're either too young and often synthetic or too mature and powdery (I dislike powdery notes). Nonetheless, I have never given up hope on finding a good authentic rose fragrance because it's a classic and a beauty in the floral world.
When I tried out the Kayali discovery set, I was only at the beginning of my journey and so my nose was not yet accustomed to all those notes and accords. SDPP piqued my interest because I could smell a sweet and sugary rose with a hint of pepper in the background. I was ready to bite the bullet for a full bottle when I detected a strange accord when bringing the perfume to my nose. There was this metallic undertone underneath the rose, the sugar and the pepper. I decided to write the perfume off from my list and forgot about it until I had tried every scent in the set. When I revisited my last remaining samples, I found myself reaching for this one a lot which led me to buying a 10ml mini bottle to test it out further.
Now that I have a bit more experience with perfumes, I can write a better review of this one. Strangely enough, the metallic accord I smelled in the beginning has faded away and I now enjoy this fragrance way more than what I first thought. Sweet sugary roses (jammy and loukoum-like) impart this almost gourmand scent and blends well into the pink pepper accord. As time passes, saffron shows up and adds a lovely feminine touch to everything while giving a nice place for the syrupy roses to shine. Magnolia and vanilla orchid enhance the sugary sweetness. The base notes end up giving everything a grounded, earthy scent. It never becomes too cloying, too sweet. It's feminine, uplifting, energetic and giving girl boss energy and put-togetherness. She's the proof that things are not always what they seem.
