Another Gem from Tom Ford
I just received this today.
Costa Azzurra is already one of my favorite Tom Fords (it almost makes me salivate, that’s how good it is) and now I can add this flanker to the top.
To my nose it’s different enough from the original to justify having both in my collection.
It smells smokier and greener than CA.
Less sweet and more like dark Cypress/piney resin.
To me there’s very little if any “acqua” in this.
It’s a mature scent for 40+, very elegant and refined (but not “dressuppy”) and leans masculine. It feels assertive and I’m very happy to welcome it to my collection. BIG LOVE!

The Gateway to Another World
Here it is, my first comment on this wonderful platform. I would like to dedicate it to the fragrance that once again immersed me in this costly yet beautiful hobby.

Before Costa Azzurra Acqua, I already owned a few fragrances, all of which fall into the Mass Pleaser category, and which my youthful self blindly purchased based on recommendations over the last two years (notable ones include Versace Eros, Dolce & Gabbana The One EdT, and two or three that are not worth mentioning). During quarantine, however, at the tender age of 18, I began to engage more deeply with the world of fragrances, and thus stumbled upon this platform. But enough of the background chatter, let’s get to the scent.

I first fell in love with the deep blue, timeless bottle, which looks incredibly elegant even without knowing the fragrance it holds. Well then, the aesthetics captured my artist's heart in an instant, so the next step was research. The fragrance notes didn’t quite match my very limited taste at the time, but the pine made the scent interesting again. As it had to happen, I made an impulsive blind purchase, and three to four working days later, I held my new love in my hands. I could hardly wait, two sprays on my wrist and... it catapulted me to the Aegean Sea. Suddenly, I was back in Greece, the sound of the deep blue waves in the background, a slightly salty sea breeze enveloping me. Then the woods come in: I smelled towering cypress trees, driftwood that had found its way to the shore, and from somewhere, a hint of lemon wafted in my direction. The development, at least for my nose, only gets better, as my highly esteemed pine joins the Hellenic olfactory pleasure. Costa Azzurra Acqua ends on a woody, yet extremely pleasant note.

Longevity is quite acceptable for me at around 6-7 hours, although the scent is only perceptible close to the skin after about 3 hours.

In conclusion: a refreshingly different aquatic fragrance that impresses mainly with its woods. Longevity and sillage are not outstanding, but quite satisfactory. The bottle is a dream, j'adore.

In short: my first great fragrance love, thank you Costa Azzurra Acqua for opening the gateway to a fascinating world for me.

The modern retro-aquat sails the seas with driftwood
The blue bottles from Tom Ford initially had a tough time. Not only did Neroli Portofino launch as a fragrance that was completely overpriced for what it offered, but it also failed to impress with its scent quality. In 2014, two new fragrances emerged from this line that couldn't be more different. With Mandarino di Amalfi, a scent that was very citrusy, appealing to the masses and of good quality, came along. Costa Azzurra, on the other hand, divided opinions; some found it very interesting and different, while others deemed it too retro, too masculine, or simply unconvincing.

Later, Eau de Toilette versions of these were released under the name Acqua. As lighter versions, they came to the perfume shops at a significantly better price.
I initially tested the Mandarino di Amalfi Acqua. To begin with, I find this one significantly better.
For me, Costa Azzurra Acqua is a retro-aquat with a modern twist. When looking at aquatics these days, they are often quite shower gel-like to appeal to a younger generation. This one has more charm in skipping those notes. It starts fresh with a bit of spice. Gradually, wood joins in, along with a hint of green in the background. The wood feels like it has been carried across the world's oceans. The green in the background could either be seaweed, which brings a bit of marine scent, or an herb like basil. I cannot detect the stated pine.
The sillage is not excessive, and the longevity is perfectly fine for an aquat.

As a Tom Ford fan who has tested several Private Blends and experienced both great and less convincing scents, I can recommend this one without hesitation. Especially for those who are fed up with shower gel aquatics and are looking for a spicy-woody fragrance in this direction again. I find the price-to-quality ratio very good considering the scent quality.
Here, Tom Ford has once again succeeded in reinterpreting a retro scent that convinces me across the board. Especially since it lacks the soapy quality of the Mandarino di Amalfi Acqua, it is pleasant for me to wear.

Fleeting Friendship
In a casual, relaxed way, I have always liked Tom Ford's Acquas - the ones in the frosted bottles - this one here - Costa Azzurra - and the others too. Casual, because the genre of light summer vacation fragrances was never what I followed Tom Ford for. And relaxed, because - although I do have a few in my portfolio - almost none of these bright blue fragrances have truly impressed me in a lasting way. And both aspects are wonderful.

I am sometimes surprised when other people tell me they have twenty really close, best friends. Aside from the fact that such close friendships cannot be forced, but must be gifted by life - maintaining them and allowing them to grow with us is work. And it is also likely wrong to assume that every friendship must be close and intimate to be important and good. We certainly need them, but not only.

We also need the casual and loose friends. The ones we occasionally go for a glass of wine or to the movies with - and then part ways again, without tears. The ones we only meet through other friends now and then, with whom we can laugh, but with whom we never arranged to meet alone. With whom we spend one or two lovely summers, yet can nod to without regret when the shared time comes to an end.

Costa Azzurra Acqua is such a fleeting, loose friend - basically, all the Private Blend Acquas are - who cheekily asks if you want to spend the summer with him, and who doesn’t mind if he is forgotten at the bottom of the Weekender at the end of it. Its architecture is approachable and accessible - aquatic, resinous, light - and its price is (in Ford's dimensions) too. An Acqua is more likely to be 'just picked up' than a 'real' Private Blend.

Conclusion: one for a summer or two. One that you might unexpectedly find years later in a side pocket of the Weekender and then remember with a smile: oh yes, that was nice... We definitely need such - perfumes like friends.

Summer Vacation Substitute in Lockdown
I was looking for a fragrance that would accompany me on my vacation with my partner to Southern Italy. I quickly found what I was looking for in the summer collection of my favorite brand, Tom Ford. For me, it could only be Costa Azzurra Acqua, as all the other Acquas were either too feminine or too weak for my taste. The big brother, Costa Azzurra, triggered too much of a walnut association in me for me to want to wear it at 30 degrees.

With Costa Azzurra Acqua, I found a fragrance that transports me to the coast of Southern Italy, even though we couldn't embark on our trip due to the virus. The scent conveys a feeling of sea breeze and sunshine, under cypress trees with filleted citrus fruits. The fragrance has enough depth to be worn in everyday life. Only the longevity leaves something to be desired for a "daily beater." However, the name "Acqua" already suggests a certain watery quality.

Overall, a successful summer fragrance. After trying a 5ml sample, I went for a 50ml bottle. Niche? Not really. Good? Yes!

I mostly smell the pine and maybe something as an ocean but for me it’s not so aquatic but more herbal scent . Not a love but like

Aquatic ozone with some pine notes lingering in the background. Not a masterpiece, but great longevity.

From the line, my favorite. A classic citrus combination with a pleasantly bitter sea breeze.

It has a woody note
It has an aquatic note
Woody-fresh
Rather masculine
Attractive in the end
But it lacks a bit of that special something

Juniper shower gel - sea breeze. Casual, summery, sporty. Very pleasant, not too masculine. I like it.

Juniper-citrus start. Then a silver-green, lightly spicy, subtly mineral shower gel-aquat on wood. Welcome to the 90s. Quite nice!

Smells like the EDP but not as harsh. Still fresh and light for summer. Wraps you gently and softly. Very pleasant.
