The "normal" Straight to Heaven has always been an ambivalent presence for me. On some days, I couldn't get enough of it; rum in fragrances often has that effect on me. On other days, it simply annoyed me...annoyed in the sense of being tiresome, exactly the parallel to Jazz Club by Margiela.
The beautiful bottle and the extraordinary name have prompted me to test it multiple times.
The Matisse version is, for me, a mix of Acqua Viva by PR and the normal Straight to Heaven! Citrusy like Nimm2, thick-oily just like PR, uplifting but not really refreshing. I know that Acqua Viva can be annoying over time. But already in the background, you can easily recognize the Straight DNA. Muted rum, like diluted or stretched...the combination, in my opinion, is very well done. Exciting, different, and extraordinary. A slightly green-herbaceous note that I didn't pick up in the normal Straight, along with a good portion of Earl Grey tea. I also can no longer detect the much-cited mustiness of patchouli; I perceived it differently in Straight anyway.
Splash is certainly a fragrance that can elicit a "Wow" during the first test in perfumeries; it did for me as well because it is appealing...it has that certain something. I'm just not sure how long I would enjoy it, as Splash is not a scent for casual wear; "demanding" would be too much to say, but it "occupies" you...it takes you in! But it also triggers a fascinating sniffing at the wrist again and again. It is persistently scratching at my wishlist. Plus, it is €50 cheaper than the normal Kilians, which can easily tempt me...let's wait and see;-)!
The longevity is very, very good; it lasts comfortably for 7 hours with a high sillage. So it has everything needed for a megaseller...if it weren't for the rum, which I quickly tire of like a fig!
Still, it's an uplifting scent, which is quite useful in these days and(!) hours...
Basically, you'd have to boycott 2/3 of all brands... it's really a bottomless pit now... the 150 euros for the scent almost feels "okay" again... maybe I've just gotten "used to it" by now; -)))!
I boycott Killian perfumes on principle because of their arrogant pricing :-) It’s not exactly logical, since I also spend money on PR and similar things. But somehow, it just gets on my nerves.
