Back to the Future ......La Rive Cabana vs. JPG Le Male
This fragrance literally beamed me back to the past ...and that despite the fact that I have NEVER owned it myself.
A colleague wore this scent a long time ago, and he just wouldn't tell me which perfume it was, as it must have been sometime between 2001 - 2002, it was probably the UR - Le Male that has burned itself into my brain.
About 6-8 months ago, I then received a sample of the original at Douglas ..... sprayed it briefly, it wasn't my thing ...... so back it went to the perfume shelf, where it still sits.
With my nose close to my arm, it smelled like moldy fruit.
Since I had good experiences with La Rive Extrem Story, I decided to give perfumes from this ultra low budget brand more attention .... lists can be found in abundance online regarding which scents correspond to which.
Last week, I tested this one .... and again, this scent of moldy fruit hit my nose ....... only 30 minutes later while shopping, this irresistible scent suddenly wafted into my nose, reminding me of back then; at first, I thought someone had walked past me wearing this fragrance, but no ... it was ME who smelled so good!
At home, I then did the A/B comparison .... and found that today's Le Male is less robust compared to this one, but significantly sweeter.
The scents are undeniably similar, but it was this affordable one that reminded me of back then, and NOT the original!
The sillage of Le Male is clearly stronger for the first 40 minutes, only after that does La Rive take the advantage .... and the original collapses.
The longevity is also decent, lasting about 6 hours on my skin ..... on clothing, it is still present even after days.
I also find it great that this La Rive, apart from the first 10 minutes .... doesn't smell synthetic at all.
Overall, a great & impressive performance for a song.
