Personally, I'm not a fan of dupes/plagiarisms, but I gladly make an exception for this one :-)
I would like to express my sincere thanks to our dear Parfumo "Skywalker92," as he suggested I try Cabana for Men, since it bears a great resemblance to my beloved Le Male.
As some may know, Le Male has been poorly reformulated, and I simply refuse to invest my money in a fragrance that has no real longevity and no sillage.
I found it at Dm and sprayed a spritz on my left wrist, then continued to search for and find some cosmetics.
I have the phenomenon that fragrances disappear from my left wrist an hour earlier, which is probably due to the stronger blood circulation.
I wore Cabana for Men for about 5-6 minutes while standing at the checkout and took my first sniff.
And I immediately had the association: Le Male.
However, the top note is a bit deeper, I would say duller, which I attribute to the cardamom; the cinnamon is integrated just right, not too much and not too little.
10 minutes later, the heart note can be detected on my skin, leaving me standing there as if frozen.
THIS IS LE MALE, the original version from 1995, just a tiny bit lighter.
I was just being checked out and then went straight back to the perfume shelf and took home a 100 ML bottle for €5.95.
Lavender, slightly sweet, Mediterranean sets the tone for the heart note and is pleasantly fresh with eucalyptus.
Also, this famous light soapiness of Le Male, which characterizes it, can be detected.
The clove acts in the background and supports the components of the heart note.
This constellation remains detectable on my skin for about 4.5 hours before the base note makes itself known.
The base note is a tad sweeter than that of Le Male, which comes from the vanilla.
Unfortunately, I can't sniff out the white musk, but I can well imagine that it is meant to serve purely as a fixative.
Overall, the fragrance is detectable on my skin for just under 6.5 hours.
The sillage is moderate right from the start, by no means overwhelming, but you can perceive the fragrance at half an arm's length quite well, and this remains so for the next 3.5 hours before it becomes slightly skin-close; it is just a tad over, so that the scent can still be perceived by someone sitting next to you.
I am really very impressed and must say that La Rive has created an extremely good alternative to Le Male here.
While the fragrance does not have the same longevity and sillage as the original Le Male, for this low price, it is clearly very well made.
I used to really like Le Male, and I think Cuba Gold is a great alternative, especially in terms of longevity. Plus, you can get it for cheap, but only online from the usual suspects ;-)
