Foul ball out of left field.
I admire most of Dominique Ropion's creations, but this one's definitely a foul ball out of left field. This is how I imagine vanilla notes are perceived by people who hate vanilla in fragrances. Sweet, foul, cloying, and the saffron and pineapple make it unusually weird. I like vanilla, but here, I have no idea what happened here. Not sure what the point of this is.

The mediocrity is bound to happen. Designing a perfume is a creative process. When you are expected to churn out three every year, it is hard to be innovative and unique.

Ropion has new company, Aphorismes by Dominique Ropion. I tasted a few last week in Jovoy Paris. They were all uniformly underwhelming.

Really? I'm sorry to hear that, but I am not surprised. A lot of his recent fragrances have been shockingly disappointing. This, Papilefiko, and some other stuff that's fallen in the dustbin of memory. What happened?
